Brady accepting suspension:(

Actually, it still would be specifically about Brady, in particular his lost game checks. The federal courts can only hear a live "case or controversy". You have to have an actual party asking for actual things. In this case, Brady would be asking for his $230K back.
That wasn't my interpretation of what I read, but thanks for the correction. My apologies to the poster to whom I responded if I was misleading. It was unintentional.

Lots of short, wise posts in this thread.

My thoughts:

I'd bet the farm that Olson told him it was virtually hopeless to think that SCOTUS would take the case after CA2 turned it down for an en banc review and that Brady took his advice.

I have no doubt that TB has made the right decision.

I'm very impressed by the professionalism with which Brady has conducted himself throughout this entire mess.

I think Goodell is the biggest loser both in the short term and the long term, other than with the Owners, who are the only constituency about which he gives a ****. But, I suspect that even the Owners will view him as a liability when his contract is up.

I don't know what difference it would have ultimately made, but I can never forgive Bob Kraft for folding his tent so quickly in San Francisco last year.

I hope that the NFLPA has the guts to go out on a long strike to strip the Commissioner of the absurd powers they have granted to him.

Personally, I'm not going to access to any of the media over the next few days. I'm already anticipating the "told you so" columns by the CHB, the MCI and the Gasper, which would no doubt make me vomit if I read them...which I will not!

Finally, I want to express my admiration for the many insightful, informed and highly intelligent exchanges many of us have been able to have over the last, dreary 17 months. 99% of the Posters on this Board made us all proud throughout.

I stand behind Tom Brady! I wish he continued the fight. I wish he would come out and blast the NFL. But talk about classy he is doing what he thinks is best for the team and he probably has to much class to bash the NFL.

I posted earlier that I do believe there's some dealings between those two behind closed doors. This is more or less the show they want us to see. There's definitely more to the saga we may never know, unless someone decided to go full "Donaghy" at some point down the line.
My tin foil hat is out at the Cleaners. Do you care to enlighten us?

I would actually be happy with the NFL and RG if they released a statement saying that they only suspended TB12 bc they felt like it and have the authority to do so and he did not cheat in any way (which is what really happened).

What would give you the idea this even remotely would have any chance of occurring.o_O

And..."Revenge is a dish best served cold."

LOL, there's a greater chance it gets increased to 8...or 16...;)

Huh, you laugh, but I can see it now.....

From the office of our beloved Commissioner: "Filing a lawsuit against the NFL is clearly conduct detrimental to the game. Therefore I am invoking my Article 46 authority and imposing an additional 4 games suspension to be served upon the completion of Brady's current 4 game suspension. As per his rights under the CBA, Brady can appeal this additional suspension to me."

The crybabies got what they wanted. Sure, they'll have to churn out some new excuses when the Pats make the playoffs again. But this at least buys them some time.

I don't plan on watching a lot of non-Pats NFL stuff this year. Going to scale back my fantasy work too. I had scaled back a bit last season.

The deal?

"You let me grandstand in front of my fanbase and pretend I'm pissed at this whole thing, while I let you do whatever you want to my franchise. We both laugh all the way to the bank"
Not quite in those terms exactly, but I do very much believe in the possibility that there could have been recompense promised when the situation reached absurd levels. Why would that be so unfathomable when we've seen this sort of thing played out in the corporate world, legal world, and political world. Hell, isn't that what our government does for a living? Lol. I know and understand everyone is angry right now, but some of you all should chill out. It is what them hell it is. I'm just trying to lik at different angles and these are just my opinions. Sorry if it irritates you, bro. Call it a would imagination. But I cashed that the NBA was fixed lung before the ref came out and revealed it...So I can't be all crazy, I suppose. Lol

No FF for me either. Screw Goodell*!

it is not important(possibly not even correct) but something to keep in mind, this suspension eliminates bradys chance of being the mvp or winning any accolades this year correct, since he is suspended for something in the attempt to gain an unfair advantage.

I get why he hasn't gone with fire and brimstone up till now, but I hope his advisors encourage him to make a much stronger statement than what he posted today and what he's come out with since this crapfest began. Those of us who have had his back on this need something more than no injury or hoping Jimmy G plays well to mollify us.

We invest our time and hard earned money in supporting him and the league and I feel we need (please note here I'm deliberately not using the word "deserve") at least to hear him, not Fredo, not BB, not Don Yee, not his Dad, not Giselle, tell us in no uncertain terms that this is a travesty, he did absolutely nothing wrong, and that those responsible have disgraced themselves and the so called integrity of the game. He doesn't have to go full "Bluto Blutarsky" here with death threats but for God's sake Tom show us you know how lousy this is for us. Convince us you understand that for the second damn time our Pats are singled out and held to standards no other team has ever been subject to and as a result the team we love loses forever the luster of the greatest period they will likely ever enjoy.

so sad...tom finally caved. goodell wins in the end.:(

time for bob to issue roger a public apology. #onyourkneesbob

This is from a Florio tweet:
"To be clear on the Tom Brady developments, he'll serve his suspension but he has authorized the NFLPA to appeal to the Supreme Court"

Not sure if that's any different than what's already been reported. But I read the NFLPA statement as saying it's reserving the right to appeal, while I'm reading Florio's statement as saying he definitely will appeal.

How would I do that if there have been backdoor dealings between businessmen? I wasn't privy. So I guess the direct answer to your question would be no. And I'm not saying there definitely have been. I'm saying I believe this to be a possibility just because this whole ending seems weird to me. But what does my opinion do to change anything? Why is it so important to you, with respect? I'm not looking for any debate, so your frustration, assuming that's what it really books down to, would probably be better released elsewhere.
