I like the fact that people are underestimating Jimmy G. Personally, if I were in his shoes, it would be a great motivator. I'd be ready to run through a wall right now !

I think that this is a perfect offense for Garappolo, quick 3 step drop backs and get rid of the ball quickly. That was his strength in college. Also, very good at reading defenses. Let's also add, he will be playing FULL games with the #1 offense. Most of the time, his reps are in mop up or against 2nd and 3rd string players in pre season games. He's never had a chance to have all the weapons available to him. Gronk, Edelman, Amendola, Hogan, Bennett, Lewis & Blount, if they all stay healthy, that is a lethal offense regardless of who is at QB. We all saw how lethal the Pat's offense was before Edelman, Gronk, Lewis & Blount got hurt, it was pretty much unstoppable.

I think Jimmy G, IF he has to play the first 4 games, will do a fantastic job. He's a top notch QB prospect, who is now in the 3rd year in this offense.

Dude is awesome

he's got all the tools and he's ready

Ready or Not, he's our guy for the first 4 games.

Would have been nice if Brady made his announcement 1 day before the season started, leaving Arizona no time to prepare for Jimmy G.

Best case now, besides Goodelll falling down some stairs, is national media talking about a QB controversy for week 5 (and a 3-1 or 4-0 start)

He looked pretty good in the preseason last year, for what it's worth. That said, it'll still be his first real action in the NFL; there will be an adjustment period. Would be awesome if he could come out like Brady did in his first 4 starts, but he doesn't have a running game to assist him either though.

yah? and exactly what game film is Arizona going to use?

This thread's premise is unsubstantiated. It is factually impossible to show more support to JG because he has not performed at a high level for the public. Perhaps training camp observers feel otherwise but we have not seen high level play as of today. I think he will be fine or good enough.

Pre-season games 1-4. Probably some college stuff which will be mostly useless

BUT, you forgot the bigger point. They would normally prepare for Brady with some time dedicated to the backup. And Brady made his remarks because he has class and is putting the organization and the season ahead of his own wants.

So, the point about waiting is more tongue-in-cheek and not a serious thought.

I'm cautiously optimistic leaning more to the side that he's going to tear it up. He has never had an official NFL regular season game under him so we do not know what to expect. Go Jimmy G!

This is his big chance to shine. He has the tools and the toolbox. Plus the training on how to use them. Call me crazy but I think he can keep the ship afloat quite well. I also like that people are underestimating him. If people assume the franchise will melt because of this news and that the win train will grind to a halt, they have another thing coming.

I don't know where all the enthusiasm about garrapollo is coming from. Last meaningful snaps he played vs starters were back in 2014 vs Buffalo. Garrapolo ran around like a chicken with his head cut off vs a blitz happy buffalo defense - the same defense he'll see in week 4. I know it was 2 years ago and he's had plenty of preseason snaps since then, but that game wasn't very convincing. Sure, the Pats sat some guys but blitzes are blitzes and the Pats oline, when all starters are in, isn't more than adequate. Brady makes them so much better.

So the first 4 games are against 4 teams with traditionally good, or at the very least very aggressive defenses. I look more at the Pats defense - can they hold these first 4 opponents to 17 or fewer points - than I do at Garapolo.

Yup. People are whistling right past that 0-4 graveyard. Or 1-3. This has the makings of a season that could spiral out of control real quick. Wonder how some of the FA signees feel about this now.

QB play has a significant effect on their own D's performance. Frequent turnovers and the inability to sustain drives can severely hinder a defense's ability to keep points off the board.

The Jimmy G Era has finally begun!

Neither the giddy excitement nor the doom and gloom should be believed quite yet. It's premature. Let's at least wait through training camp and pre season before we make predictions about the first four games. I think Jimmy's got real potential, but he might crash and burn -- who knows? We'll find out.

The Pats were also playing their B-Squad in that game, including at the OL, and that was pretty much Buffalo's Super Bowl.

Either way, the team will get a good idea of what he can do right off the bat. Arizona has a good defense. Hopefully, he'll have Dion back at full strength as a safety valve. I'll of course take both he and Edelman back together on the field, but I think the latter is going to start on PUP.

This is why the Patriots need a defensive performance out of the 03-04 season for these first 4 games....

His rookie season, playing with nothing but scrubs and no offensive line. The following preseason, he completed more than 70 percent of his passes. Now he'll be playing with the A team.

That KC Monday night blow out...I know the cheifs had backed off a little but stuck one in there for Gronk. Looked good enough .
