The Possible Downside of a Stay

There is no downside to a stay, in this case.

The only reason I corrected you was because you sound serious and I want to make sure you know where you're going and/or don't get lost. Not that I, along with Supa, would ever condone such behavior (map quest has the necessary details...)
I felt like standing up in the middle of my apartment and screaming, "Who's with me?!" Lol

2001-2002 - Started 1-3, Superbowl Champs
2003-2004 - Started 2-2, Superbowl Champs
2014-2015 - Started 2-2, Superbowl Champs

2006 - Started 3-1, Loss to Colts in AFCC
2008 - Matt Cassel goes 11-5, missed playoffs due to tie breaker
2009 - Started 3-1, bulldozed by Ray Rice in the WC round
2010 - Started 3-1, loss to Jets in AFCD
2011 - Started 3-1, damn Giants again
2012 - Started 2-2, AFCD loss to the Ravens

I left out 2005 and 2013 since they both had hot starts, 2007 because, well, reasons.

That said - Jimmy G has been in the system for a few years, has solid talent all around him, and has 3 at home. 2-2 is fine. Three of this team's trophy's came on slow starts. If Matt Cassel can go 11-5 with a lesser motivated Moss, Welker, and not much after that, then Jimmy should do just fine for four games with Gronk-Jules-Bennett-Lewis-Dola-Hogan-Blount and the support of a very good D.

Ride high or die. Easy choice.

Brady has no hope of success in a defamation suit - the cards are stacked against him:

1. He is a public figure
2. Statements made during the legal proceedings are protected
3. Goodell was very careful about what he said otherwise
4. Can't use the leaks
1) Goodell may have been a little careful, but he wasn't perfect. He was caught lying on a couple occasions in his press conferences.

2) You can use the leaks if you can figure out who told them, or otherwise establish that they came from the league office. Remember: a civil trial has a lower burden of proof than a criminal trial. If Brady can establish it is "more likely than not" the league office (*cough* Kensil *cough*) lied to the press, then IMHO that gives Brady a strong case.

3) I know I am biased, but I sure as hell think the league office acted with reckless disregard for the truth, which is one of the criteria for a defamation lawsuit.

If a stay ends up resulting in the suspension happening in January, I'd say that's a downside. Better to have had no stay and gotten the suspension over with in September.

That argument makes no sense at all, in context. It's an argument about the timing of a potential resolution, not about the stay itself.

Without the stay, Brady loses 4 games. With a stay, Brady might not lose any games. It's really that simple.

Edit: issue moot:

“I’m very grateful for the overwhelming support I’ve received from Mr. Kraft, the Kraft family, coach Belichick, my coaches and teammates, the NFLPA, my agents, my loving family and most of all, our fans,” Brady wrote. “It has been a challenging 18 months and I have made the difficult decision to no longer proceed with the legal process. I’m going to work hard to be the best player I can be for the New England Patriots and I look forward to having the opportunity to return to the field this fall.”

Brady just put a statement on FB that he is no longer going to fight it

His argument makes perfect sense and he is 100% correct. You wrote "there is no downside to a stay, in this case."

Fact is there is a huge downside to a stay: the potential he loses games in January instead of September.

I guess this thread is moot now. No disrespect to the OP, of course.

I would never condone such behavior either.

I don't condone such acts either. You can get caught easily with eggs, toilet paper and the like. Writing ****head across his lawn with something that kills grass wouldn't show up till the next day, so you're less likely to get caught. err, at least that's what I heard.

I agree. I once heard an outlandish idea involving a submarine with an attached Catapult and bags filled with rotten sewage and eggs. Seesh, the stuff people come up with. Outlandish I tell you.....outlandish.

But I would never condone such vile acts of integrity.
