Calais Campbell says he's "licking his chops" at the prospect of facing Jimmy G

I'm sure they'd prefer 12 was throwing balls their way, and not some unproven back up who's never played at a high level
But TB will be back. A pissed off TB. It's go time!!! G will win 1 or 2. ..Maybe I'm naive , but I believe BB and TB will be on a rampage. That's all I have left to look forward to in this joke of a league

Pathetic and weak of this guy - it's basically an admission that their only hope of a win is when the Pats are without Brady. He better watch out for Gronk though!

I almost want TB12 to retire.

I don't agree but know what you mean.

I would prefer he hoists another one or two Lambahdy trophies over Bozo's head. That would be priceless.

My fantasy has gone beyond Brady just hoisting another Lombardi in front of Roger. As Roger is handing the trophy to Bob, Brady rips it out of both of their hands and holds it over his head. I'm still torn on whether or not I want him to yell "Are you not entertained!?".

I wonder if Campbell recalls the last time the Pats played the Cardinals with their backup.....was he licking his chops then?

Cassel put up 47 on them

maybe he's still licking his wounds

Jimmy is way faster on the ground than Brady. good luck catching him :)

(Then again my dead grandma is faster than him, so...lol)

Wouldn't really call it trash talk. He basically just summed up how vet defenders view rookie quarterbacks.

I like the team's chances in game 1. No film on JG. Bill has all summer to game plan for these guys. They will be ready. Carson Palmer should be the one who is nervous.

Pressure breaks a man....but it also creates diamonds. If Jimmy is the future boy would it be something else to see him rip a highly respected Defense in his first start.

What would we do if Jimmy is the second coming of Tommy?
Maybe less cerebral but with a stronger arm quicker release?

You have to live and die with Tom after week 4 but after that sit him down and talk about the future.
You cant let young elite QBS walk out the door and im only saying this as a option ONLY if Jimmy is the Young to Bradys Montana or Aaron Rodgers in waiting.

It would not make any sense to me to let the greatest QB of all time go to allow a potentially good QB to take over.

Anyways until Brady's performance starts to decline significantly I won't consider who his replacement may be. We already know what Brady can do.

OK. I'm adding that to my fantasy endings. "Are you not entertained" while on the champions stage holding the Lombardi Trophy and with Roger in the background would be one of the best endings imaginable.

Just a couple of opinions:

1. That was pretty mild stuff by Campbell and just barely reaches the level of trash talk.

2. The NFL couldn't have picked a tougher game for the Pats to start their season with. The Cardinals come into this year with a top 3 roster in the league and they will have the home field advantage and the Pats will be a significant underdog for that game.....and that's if Brady is the starting QB.

3. Asking JG to make his first start on the road against one of the top D's in the league is a HUGE challenge. He WILL be nervous. He WILL make mistakes, and do all the things that Campbell stated in this article. But on the other hand we do know that BB WILL have him ready to be competitive in this game (with probably a pared down offensive game plan), and the Pats will have a defense of their own going up against one of the most immobile QB's in the league and a OL that has as many questions as our own. (and they don't have Dante. ;) )

Quotes like this honestly make me wonder if teams will not give their best efforts just because Brady's not there. Yeah, Brady is the GOAT, but I don't think Garoppolo is some slouch, and the team still has Gronk, Bennett, Edelman, Lewis, Amendola.... Plus new additions like Hogan etc. And Brady missing isn't going to weaken the defense...

More than this the most striking thing to me is that Belichick is treated like a non entity. Yeah, losing Brady sucks but they have a really good team, a young QB who has been tutored in this system for two years, and the GOAT coach. The only good QB they face is Palmer and they play 3 at home. If anything I think they have teed this season up for Belichick and Brady.

Watch the **** out 31.

Yeah, it seems like pretty good circumstances to miss Brady for 4 games. Beginning the year, 3 at home, and the only "good" team is Arizona who finished their season crapping the bed last year... Plus, as you said, Jimmy has another year's experience in the system. It could be so, so much worse.

It begs an interesting question: Would you rather be without Brady 4 games with Jimmy G and BB leading the team, or without BB for 4 games with Brady and McDaniels leading the team? I think BB is the more important piece in that sort of circumstance, with all due respect to the GOAT QB of course.

The extended question is would you rather have the Patriots team minus TB for the first 4, or any other team in the league? Obvi we're all biased here, but seriously, who would take anyone else? It's 4 games...they'll do what they do, 1-3 wins, then Tom will be back, they'll win the division with 11-13 wins, and they'll be in the AFCCG. From there, it's a crapshoot and/or matter of health, like it always is.

I really don't think it's that much of a difference in any case for a few games - BB has been around for 16 years now, Brady starting for 15, and the culture is pretty ingrained. This isn't a sucker of a team just standing around waiting for an ass-kicking without TB, or BB, that's gonna go 0-4 just cause problems. If they go 0-4 it's not because BB sucks or TB is so awesome, it's because matchups dictated that and they couldn't figure it out. I can't imagine BB losing 4 straight to start a season. But even if they did, I'd kinda expect 12-4 to follow.

Also as noted any Patriots response to Campbell should include the last time NEP faced AZ with a backup QB. BEAT. DOWN. Go win something, then talk **** after that.

The likelihood that Garrapolo is the "2nd coming of Brady" is about one in twenty million. Brady is the greatest player in NFL history and replicating his success will be impossible. Beyond that he's showing no signs of deteriorating and could very well continue playing like this for a long time to come. The best case scenario for this is that Garrapolo plays really good ball for them and garners the interest to get back a first round pick for him. If Garrapolo can hand off a 3-1 team to Brady they will be all set to make their run for number five.

Jimmy being an elite QB and taking over Brady's job? It's not out of the realm of possibility.... But it's a long shot for sure
