The Official Browns site posted a preview looking at their match-up against the Patriots this year talking about how they might be beatable.

A couple of bits:

"Matchup to watch: Brady vs. the Browns defense. Cleveland has said it wants to be an aggressive defense focused on two relatively simple concepts in stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback. Against the Patriots and Brady — who might need some time to shake off some offseason rust — the Browns should have a chance to make good on that approach."

and

"What makes them beatable: What's that saying about any given Sunday? The Browns should have plenty motivation in this one with a chance to square off against one of the league's best teams in front of the Dawg Pound on a crisp October afternoon. New England, meanwhile, might take some time to get Brady into a groove and the run game -- which finished 30th last season -- could potentially be a weakness this season. If Cleveland's pass defense can lock down Brady and Co. and force the Patriots to be one-dimensional, the Browns will have a chance."

Just makes you wish the season was a little closer

Eh. What do you expect them to say? We haven't got a chance, hide the children and cover the women's eyes? Seems pretty mild to me.

Or maybe just "Let's not poke the bear." :D

Seems to me that I have been hearing the 'just make them one-dimensional' line for quite a while now.

Isn't that pretty much what every defense wants to do to their opponent, in every game?

Wanting to do that and succeeding in doing so are two different things.

And even when the Patriots don't run the ball, that is not a guarantee for success. Last year the Patriots beat the Jets while rushing for a mere 16 yards , beat the Bills running for 56 yards in week two, and defeated the Chiefs in the playoffs with only 38 yards on the ground.

What really liked was the novel approach they are taking on defense. Stopping the run and putting pressure on the QB is really innovative and fresh. Why didn't we think of that.

The last two times the Pats have played the Browns, they have been tough contests. We lost Gronk for the season in the last one. Sure, it SHOULD be any easy win but this team is just as capable as any of throwing in a clunker. I'm sure Belichick will have them mentally ready and I'm sure Brady will be biting at the bit to get back.

The last time Hue Jackson was a Head Coach, (Oakland 2011), his owner died of embarrassment halfway through an 8-8 season.

Yes, it's an analysis you really can't argue with. If they play well enough to shut down the Patriots, they win.

That Patriots/Browns game in 2013 where the Patriots had to perform miracles to win it in the final seconds was one of the most exciting non-consequential games I've seen. I hope the Browns bring their best.

if they can cover gary barnidge, the pats will win handily. Then again the browns have no QB who can get barnidge the ball so it may not matter.

So how they gonna stop Gronk...Double team him? Oh that just opens up Bennett..Double team him too? Oh so how you gonna stop the run while double teaming 2 tight ends? ...What are they gonna do? WHAT ARE THEY GONNA DO ..WHEN GRONKOMANIA RUNS WILD ON YOU, BROTHER!!!!

Spot on. I always find it fascinating to hear the mediots say "get pressure on Brady with 4 guys and drop 7 into coverage, hit him, make him uncomfortable and he's just a mediocre QB."

Well, gee, what a shocking revelation. Get pressure on the QB without any blitz packages and drop 7 into coverage so you can double team Gronk/Edelman? If only the rest of the league knew this secret formula.

Is there any QB that would be better than "mediocre" in the above circumstances? Teams have been trying to figure out how to stop the Patriots for the past 16 years. Developing a gameplan for a desired result and executing to achieve the desired results are two different animals.

If the decision does not get overturned I am going to this game.

The Browns always seem to be that team that is way more difficult for us to beat then it should be. Remember the second to last time we faced them, aka the Peyton Hillis game?

More from the article:

What makes this game tough: It’s the Patriots.

:D If you're hunting for disrespect, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Yeah, it's pretty much "if everything you try succeeds, well, then you'll be succeeding." BUT, I still give a lot more credence to any analyst who says to drop 7 against Brady rather than calling for constant blitzes. You used to hear the latter a lot more.

Or the last game in Foxboro:
Game Recap: Patriots 27, Browns 26

Also if you believe the Giants d-coordinator it was not the Eagles or Ravens games in 07 that was "the blueprint" on beating the Pats that year. It was the Browns game that he pointed to. Coached by Romeo Crennel. Thanks RAC. :(
