Since I am not American (even though I have lived and worked in MA for years) I feel like another US poster should make a thread and this should be merged into it.

Hope you all have a great day with family and friends...may as well haul out your Wilfork moves in front of the bbq today and impress...:)

Happy Fourth of July and warm greetings from the Mother Country (where we've been setting off the fireworks inside the house for the last few days :confused::oops:). Hope you all have a great day.

I'm still not happy about the Mother Country stealing all our town names.

I'll be sure to return your warm greetings on Guy Fawkes Day in November !!

Until then..Happy 4th of July to all us Americans everywhere....:)

Happy fourth to you all as well! May your fireworks be great and your Kevin Durants sign in Boston.

Or if you prefer, the original.

Happy 4th to my adopted country.

I posted this in the other forum but I thought it should probably belong in this thread as well:

Most people don't know this but our country's actual Independence Day is not July 4th...it's July 2nd.

On July 2nd 1776, the 2nd Continental Congress voted for independence from England. They then went to work on the Declaration of Independence and approved it on July 4th.

So yes, you're all 2 days late. :D

This is what John Adams had to say about the "2nd of July" in a letter he wrote to his wife:

"The second day of July, 1776
, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."

So. how many of you have already completed your solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty yet? :)

BTW, my home state of RI, we the first state to declare independence from England on May4th 1776 and we have the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration. Go Rhody!

Oh, one more thing.....Betsy Ross did not design the First American Flag. It was actually a man named Francis Hopkinson and he tried to get paid for it.

"Hopkinson is recognized as the designer of the flag of the United States, and the journals of the Continental Congress support this.[11] His first letter in May 25, 1780, requesting compensation from Congress was almost comical. He asked for a quarter cask of wine in payment for designing the U.S. flag, the Great Seal of the United States, and various other contributions."

Happy Independence Day +2!!
