Well they say that he is worth $500M from what I saw on a news website.

I'm sure he's worth a fair amount through making max contracts and endorsement deals. Either way, I've never heard of anyone related to sports giving that kind of money (if true). It's a shame, because that kind of wealth can change many lives in dramatic fashion.

Again, I don't know the specifics of this 87 million dollars, or how much of that is interest gained over a certain amount of time, but it would be very difficult to argue that it's a wonderful act of kindness. Good for him. Personally, I was very surprised to see so many negative comments here about him during the series, but perhaps this will prove that some of those were overstated.

Better to give than............

If only the other wealthy in this country would follow instead of hiding their wealth and wanting more at the expense of others.

Not talking about welfare

Lets help other to achieve a decent life

God forbid people try and protect what they have earned.

If you want wealth distribution tell your congressman to close all the tax loopholes, abolish the IRS, push for a flat tax and add tax incentives for American -specific investment in small business and financial products by the rich.

In before all of the "LeBron is a douchebag" comments.

I mean Brady probably does much more charity work than James yet it doesn't stop people from having a negative opinion of Brady.

Lebron class act all the way.

Since you opened this can of worms...I think the sentiment is more aimed at the rich people for whom "earned" might not be the correct word when describing how they got their money. And the person you replied to also expressed concern that they were not only protecting their wealth, but piling up even more.

Last but not least, don't believe the liberal media.

People who criticize either of them should just stop. Its hilarious.

It doesn't matter how they earned it. As long as they abide by the tax laws they have the right to keep as much as they can.

Until the money is in the bank where he can no longer touch it, you'll forgive me if I take this with a grain of salt..

I dont understand why this guy gets so much hate:

  1. He has never been arrested, charged with a crime, crashed a car, been accused of jaywalking
  2. He married the only women who he has kids with, there has never been even a hint that he cheated on his wife, no strippers, rape accusations.
  3. He has never hit a women, a dog, a cat, kid
  4. No roids, dope, drinking
  5. won 3 rings with 2 different team; 3 finals MVP
  6. 4 MVPs
  7. donating millions of $ so kids can get degrees;
  8. he left Cleveland without telling them after 7 years to go play on a better team (the horror). I did mention that it was Cleveland. Now he has gone back and they won their first championship.

If you look at the article closely, you can see Lebron traveling.

The headline is misleading and the article is from last year.

From the article, this pledge is from his foundation. What percent of that 87M is from him personally versus sponsors and other donors is unclear. Looking at the 2014 IRS 990, there wasn't much in the bank at the time. 2013 showed 2-1 expense-grant ratio.

Any update?
NERD:)

Maybe because the guy is arrogant as hell and sure as hell didn't deserve 3 Finals MVPs. He's not even in the top 25 best Basketball players of all time.

He's the only one, to my knowledge, that has held a 1 hour television show all about him discussing where he was going to go during free agency..

Again, until the money is in the bank, this whole "donating millions" is nothing but a PR stunt. Sorry that you are offended that I am doing more than taking the arrogant POGs word for it..

If the comments about James' "decision" show raising 6m dollars for charity are true, that paints a different picture for me.

In the meantime, I can appreciate your skepticism.

So he's arrogant who isn't in the Nba. Jordan was, Kobe, Shaquille, Steph, didn't green just say that GS really is the best even though they just lost. He is getting 2300 poor kids a chance to go to school how is this anything but goodness that should be celebrated.

Also, saying heis not a top 25 player is just wrong. Kinda like saying Manning sucked at QB.
