Completely agree w this. All 3 of my kids play club soccer and midfield play is non existent.Like I said earlier ... there is literally no creative midfield play in US youth soccer.
Teams are now forced to play a 4-4-2 and most of the play is up the sides ...
There is strength in offense as a unit ... but not individually in the midfield.
No. I've watched it multiple times, in slow motion, at speed, and from different angles. It was a stunning free kick.I'm not saying it's easy but there are quite a few that would have saved that one. If you watch it again, you can see that he makes a little jump to his right the moment messi kicks the ball. That's a typical mistake many GKs make because they are afraid of a shot over the wall. Without that jump, he saves that free kick.
It was ... I mostly agree with you ... but one thing bothers me about it.No. I've watched it multiple times, in slow motion, at speed, and from different angles. It was a stunning free kick.
Setting the wall is always an interesting proposition but you've also got to remember, even though it's likely Messi will take it, Argentina is full of other capable players and as the keeper, you've also got to mind your surroundings which includes the goal, your defenders and the opposition. From our vantage point, that all seems rather simple but for Guzan, that was happening at match speed and under pressure. It was ... I mostly agree with you ... but one thing bothers me about it.
The ball went through the gap that Guzan himself wanted so he does bear some responsibility.
If he was worried about his far side he should have placed the wall a few feet in that direction.

It curled away and dipped into the top corner. Frankly, it's an astonishing piece of set piece skill from Messi.

Nr 4 @ 2min is almost exactly the same
No doubt, easy to dissect in retrospect but the quality of the finish was, and remains outstanding. As for Guzan's failure, that could be a long or a short discussion. The wall is set in attempt to cut the net in half ...
It is a bit puzzling thst Guzan left 3 feet available on his left side ... Messi needed 1 of that.
The pressure suely created that error IMO.

I am sure that Messi's kick decreased the PSI which is why Guzan wasn't able to save it. With a properly inflated ball he saves that 100 times out of 100, I know because I asked Mark Brunell. Enjoy the asterisk Messi!Maybe more like Pats-Colts, Jan 2015.
What was the gametime temp? Should we whine about psi?
I was at Monster Jam at Gillette ... I missed it.How about this us vs Colombia match? It's been pretty exciting

Their attack is unreal ... they bring honor to the 4-3-3.Chile vs argentina should be good. Don't sleep on chile.
