Regarding Dier taking the free kick, have watched all season Dier stand in the conversation with regards taking them, but he always gets barged out of it be Eriksen, Kane and Lamela, even seen Dier place the ball to get ready to take it. He hasn't to my knowledge actually taken one yet, expect that to change next season. haha

I like Liverpool too but Lallana and Henderson are terrible.
Having adopted Liverpool as my BPL team after Henry bought them, I've seen plenty of weak midfield play over the years with Henderson and Lallana on the field. Henderson ==> great athlete / ordinary soccer player who occasionally sneaks a nice pass thru the defensive ranks. Lallana is the ultimate tease….he displays creativity but rarely makes his team better. Then there is Sterling…perhaps the most overrated player in the BPL. Superhuman speed but no finishing skills and perhaps the weakest kick I've seen since middle school. Sterling's only use is as a wide assist man. If Sterling is the alternate choice to deliver corners, I can understand why Kane gets the nod…..but you have to think one of the other 8 could do the job allowing Kane in the box.

Question for our Brit fans, how's Origi's health? I expect Origi to make quantum leaps forward in the next couple of years in the BPL.

He is, specifically by Alan Shearer, but most of the media have been saying it too. My thinking is that he is the only one who can hit the ball straight hard perfect for headers where glances are just needed and none of this curl out or in where the power is gained from he person heading. They must have had a camp competition and the team would rather excellent service and sacrifice one player to help 5 or 6 in the box.

Regarding Kane looking different, Its my opinion that since April he has looked burned out, luckily Tottenham have the summer to bring in two class strikers to help him as he has been the only one the past 12 months. You got to remember also that the rapport with Tottenham players is different to England players.

It also doesn't help when England manager doesn't play a settled starting line-up in the 3 friendlies prior to the first tournament game.

Why was Kane on corners? Shearer questions England set-piece choices

This England side is very favorable to Tottenham. I thinks it was 5 Tottenham players that played yesterday?

Kane just doesn't seem as involved in the game with the English NT. In my eyes hes England most dangerous player. They need to find a way to get him more involved. Whether thats a formation change or not, who knows. If he catched fire he can take England far.

Eric Dier and Delle Alli are some great prospects though. Love those guys. Tottenham, if they can keep the core of their team together, is gonna be a terror for years.

The reason there is five Tottenham players is mainly because those chosen are specific to the formation and the way Hodgson wishes to play. Hodgson has taken the basis of what Pochettino has worked on the past 2 years which has transformed the side, chucking out the rubbish and bringing in young talent that will die for the opportunity. Dier cost 4m, Delli Alli cost 5m, Rose was a trainee, whilst Walker was bought in as part of a double deal when he was a teenager and was deemed the lesser talent both signed some years ago, Poch has transformed not only the players but the mentality too. Then you have Harry Kane as everyone knows is the kid who grew up a couple miles from White Hart Lane and joined up as a kid. Forbes or someone simalar did a price on the value of the top 100 players a couple weeks back of which Tottenham had 5 within, the three of Kane, Alli and Dier all had a value of 200m! Not bad for 9m in transfer fees (the other two were Lamela and Eriksen). Kane was 5th overall, whilst Alli was just outside the top 10.

Hodgson has taken that ethos by building around the Tottenham players in vital areas that makes this system work, the high press, the high line, the flying fallbacks, everyone fighting from the moment the whistle is blown, the attitude that you can always win, last season in the EPL Tottenham won the most points from losing positions. Its this type of stat, that not only coaches love but so do the fans.

With the new Stadium just around the corner and thus with the ability to pay higher wages Tottenham should be in a better position than they were when they lost Modric first for 35m and then Bale for the highest ever transfer fee of 86m to Real Madrid to keep hold of this core of players. The biggest thing is everyone seems to be pulling in the same direction, from owners, coaches, players and of course the most important people the fans. Gone are the days where the fans booed there own players or rumours of prima donna types refusing to conform to Pochettino's ethics (rumours of 5 players downing tools, no one has actually said so but all five never played again).

With Leicester City and Tottenham leading the charge last season its great to see clubs that don't buy success such as Chelsea and Manchester City with money not earned by there clubs.. what Leicester achieved is worth more than everything that both Chelsea and City have won the past 10 years combined under there current oligarch/mafia owners.

Saying the above, its would be very Spursy to go bankrupt building the stadium, get relegated and lose all what they have achieved under Poch. lol

Sorry about the long post.

This next game should be good, looking forward to the counter attack play from Ukraine's Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko.

A truly fantastic performance for 80 minutes......then they decided to drop deeper and deeper and invite aerial pressure against a side that was quite a bit taller than them. That was the first part of the naivety.

The second was not bringing on one of the other forwards at 1-0, or bringing on someone like Henderson at the end and pushing Dier back to pick up any of the runners.

Akinfeev made some cracking saves, but as ever, it's coulda woulda shoulda for England. The Wales game is enormous now.

Good post.

Very little to criticize about the performance up to and including the goal (fantastic strike, well rehearsed deception). Rooney was well worth his place for the accurate long passes and Sterling was a tremendous outlet. Also very impressed with Rose and (especially) Walker as attacking forces.

But you could see the drop in tempo immediately after the goal, most noticeable (modern football!) in how little the attackers contributed to pressing and defending.

Neuer is hands down the best goalkeeper in the world, and its not even close.

Germany so far seems to be taking the right tack, continuing to attack and not sit on a one Goal lead. But they do look a little sloppy, a lot more lost balls than normal for them.

Tony Kroos.

What a footballer!

germans look soooo good

schweinstegger plays for like 2 minutes and scores lol.

Germany at their best is the best team in the world. I think we can all agree on that

Holy smokes, did Brazil just get screwed.

US vs Ecuador
Colombia vs Peru

Brazil got eliminated in a group with Haiti, Peru and Ecuador.

Holy f***, my country sucks. We used to have soccer to forget about problems, now they are just as bad as everything else

boateng saved him there

And a fantastic save that was. Another foot and it'd have been a 1-1 game. That being said, it never really felt like a contest to me.

Naturally I'm biased as I have a good dose of German in me.
