Mike Carey OUT!

CBS on Carey this past year:

"It’s funny, the vast majority of the calls that Mike has made have been correct. I sit there on Sunday afternoon, and he’ll do sometimes, a dozen different cut-ins to our various regional games, and he’s almost always right"

Such a clown

Carey and Pereira demonstrate what we always knew: the officials, on the field and off, get it wrong about as often as the average viewer. Carey's problem isn't so much getting it wrong as it is being lousy on TV while getting it wrong, and CBS has obviously decided that more time won't help overcome that.

Carey remains in my head during those late night, dark thought sessions re: SB42 and the almost perfect season. I don't know why I blame him and I really don't want to go back and find examples, but that's where my brain goes when I hear his name.

I always liked Pereira, especially after he came on radio here and blasted the illegal contact rules and Bill Polian.

Carey is another story altogether.

Pereira says emphasis on illegal contact "didn't seem logical"

Oft imitated seldom duplicated... Carey sounded a tad "robotic"...

He never figured it out.
  1. didn't quite tote the NFL party line while part of the NFL.
  2. Thought he could do the same when he left...
  3. ...he was wrong.
Short Version: He would have to join up with a network that has no affiliation with the NFL.

Carey just reviewed the tape of his dismissal and stated that after careful review there's no way that he should be out and he predicts a reversal and full reinstatement.

I still remember his debut 2 years ago when CBS went to him during the Raiders Jets Week 1 game. He looked like a nervous wreck. He was sweating, mumbling, stuttering and misunderstood Phil Simms's question. (Although it's easy to misunderstand Phil Simms.)
After that I noticed they only used his voice. No more live cut ins.

In almost every single case when this happens, they will find a replacement that is far worse. I expect the same.

Too many rules and too much micromanaging and interpretation. The red tape destroys the fun of watching the game. The refs make it up as they go then the NFL defends them as infallible.
