Assistant WR coach... Troy Brown

From the end of July until January being an NFL assistant coach is a 70 hour week job, seven days a week....minimum. I don't think Troy wants to commit that much time to be a full time coach, nor does he need to. He has a good TV gig during the season and he had a few good paydays during his long career.

That being said, it is good to see him still willing to help out, and I love the fact that the core guys of the BB era come back a lot after they retire.

Good to see Dobson improving and Troy is a great mentor. I actually think Harper has a better shot then Dobson though. Dobson always seems to let us down.

Nice little write up. Thanks for that link.

To help out new receivers in camp does not mean he is an "assistant coach"?? Not sure why Troy would want that job, as he would have to dedicate his life to the Patriots once again.. coaches work long hours for very long periods of time.

Welker made an appearance in Miami for their OTA's.. he is not a coach.

Love of football? Love of a team?

(but your point is more valid and pervasive than mine of course)

How about a brain and hands transplant?

Troy Dobson? Aaron Brown? Traron Browson?

Heart transplant and not the kind they actually do. Dobson is still waiting for his opportunity. Troy Brown forced his opportunity after being cut [multiple times?], just a special teamer [no I'm not, said Troy] just a third down receiver [no, I'm a receiver] just a 3/4th receiver [no, I'm a go to receiver] Just a 100 catch all time Patriot great [Hey, I can play defense too]. Damn Troy, you're killing me.:D

If Dobson had 1/100th of Troy's guts, character and competitiveness, he'd be a hall of famer. Let's see if that's transferable at all.

I think we have hungrier receivers than Dobson, myself.

Propping him up for a trade perhaps ... history has shown otherwise.
What other than your imagination are you basing your opinion of dobsons intellect on?

More than a few vets have helped out over the years, it's a great tradition similar to what the Celtics used to have. I often wonder if Belichick studied that dynasty - actually, knowing him I'm sure he did. He's studied every great team, military general etc. he's a very smart guy.

Troy seems to be having a great time working in media and selling 'Gansett. I really doubt he wants that grind full time.

Dobson should soak up as much knowledge from Troy as possible. Maybe Troy taught him how to catch?
I really think it is all confidence and injuries. The guy just seems to get the jitters when it's game time. In his first year it was dropping catchable balls but then he got quite better with more games and boom...bad foot injury out two years.

Then starting again last year we saw the confidence issue again. He caught what was thrown to him but he made those catches so difficult on himself by bobbling them. Then injuries again.

I don't know if it will ever happen but if he makes the team, stays healthy and makes the most out of the snaps then yes I think he could be a good piece of our offense.

He is salvageable and has potential but is on very borrowed time. He needs to tear it up in TC and preseason. Even then...we shall see if he makes the 53.

Coach Belichick disagrees with you

"Aaron is really smart. He can play all the positions. He makes very few mental mistakes and he has a lot of length. He can run. " - Belichick

That's the kiss of death. He'll be cut within a week.

Probably "coach's assistant" is more accurate.

Speaking of the term "coach's assistant," what the hell is up with Wes Welker helping out the Dolphins and Ravens? Is he going to hit up all of our rivals on some type of national tour or something?

Now we hear he's the ST coach too.

* Second-round corner Cyrus Jones saw plenty of reps opposite Butler during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills with Ryan absent. He showed impressive quickness at times, and he picked off Jimmy Garoppolo during a 2-on-2 session on Thursday. Jones was also consistently deployed as a punt returner during practices. Outside of one muffed punt during Thursday's windy workout -- which earned him a quick tutorial from Troy Brown -- he showed dependable hands in the kicking game.
