Baltimore TE Crockett Gilmore: 'Ravens have hands down best group of tight ends in NFL'

I don't even think you can count Dennis Pitta considering he's been out with major hip injuries for a couple years and may never play again... So it's really Gronkowksi-Bennett-Harbor vs Old Watson-Williams-Gillmore. In what way do the Ravens win that matchup?

****, I think even taking Gronk out and just comparing Bennett-Harbor-Derby vs. Watson-Williams-Gillmore favors the Pats.

Don't know why we're upset over this. Media set him up and what was he supposed to say? "I feel like I'm not worth the money my team paid me." Or "I'm not sure I'm gonna make it out of mini camp." Every single athlete in the NFL thinks they're the best at what they do.

Not saying it's right. It's not only a problem in sports but also in schools. American kids think a lot more highly of themselves than kids from other countries and they're oblivious to how bad the education standard is.

So a 35 year old Watson who could drop off any day, a Pitta who hasn't played in what, 3 years? And Crocket Gilmore, who had 400 yards last year as the Ravens number one TE. There's a lot of questions there.

To be fair they do also have Maxx Williams, a second round pick from the year before as Well.

To me this is the classic case of quantity vs. quality.

Now you tell me if you'd rather have 4 so so average TE's, or two elite TE's. Give me the latter alllll day.

Confidence is a good thing, but at some point it becomes an absurd joke.

Note: included below is the WEEI link, in order to avoid clicking the BSPN column.

Baltimore’s Crockett Gillmore: Ravens have best tight ends in NFL

“This is the best group in the NFL,” Gillmore said of the Ravens’ tight ends via ESPN. “I’m not afraid to say it. It’s hands down [the best group].”

Rob Gronkowski
Martellus Bennett
Clay Harbor
A.J. Derby
M̶i̶c̶h̶a̶e̶l̶ ̶W̶i̶l̶l̶i̶a̶m̶s̶

-or-

Dennis Pitta
Ben Watson
Crockett Gilmore
Maxx Williams

Even after stepping away from the KoolAid and taking off the Homer Glasses, this still isn't close to being a debate.

If the Pats sign me as a QB two things will happen:

#1 - I will rush to the bank to cash my paycheck before the Pats come to their senses

#2 - I will confidently proclaim that the Pats have the best set of QBs in the NFL*

Translation for Crockett Gilmore - I have as much effect on the Pats' overall QB quality as you do for the Ravens' TE quality.

Want a good laugh? This writer (Warning: ESPN content to follow) thinks that's a point worth debating:

Gillmore has a point, because he said Baltimore had the best tight-ends group, not duo. No one will argue that the league's top 1-2 punch at tight end is Gronkowski and Bennett. They've produced the most receiving yards at that position since 2013.

But, when looking at each team's tight ends from top to bottom, Gillmore can make the case that the Ravens are atop the NFL...

Sorry, Patriots: Crockett Gillmore says Ravens' tight ends are NFL's best

Yep, New England may have the top #1 & 2 TE positions, but Baltimore wins at the all-important #3 & 4 TEs. Advantage: Ravens.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Gillmore's been in the league for 2 seasons. In that time, he's played 25 games for 43 receptions, 533 yards and 5 touchdowns. In Gronk's rookie season alone, he played 16 games for 42 receptions, 546 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Nothing more than silly attention seeking. The Ravens unit, if healthy, will be a good unit but the simple fact is Gronk and Bennett combine to better any group in the NFL.

Silly Ravens.

So these two guys had a love child and he plays TE for the Ravens???

No sane/sober tight end in the NFL thinks he's a better overall TE than Gronk. No sane/sober TE in the NFL thinks he's got a TE crew better than Gronk/Bennett (125 catches last year, 172 catches the year before, more than adequate run blocking).

Yup - Bleating and babbling we fell on their necks with a scream. Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into their dream.

Have they heard the news? The ratbirds are dead! They better stay home and do as they're told. Stay out of the road if they want to grow old.

And we're wasting time and energy on what this guy thinks because.......?

Does Flunko even throw to TEs? His 60 yd rainbows hoping for the 50/50 jump ball win might not be the best use for TEs.

On the Patriot front, I can't believe this board hasn't been typing away regarding the loss of Michael Williams, ACL. "Managed" Gronk and one year/pass catcher Bennett, the Pats have a void now at blocking TE, a position BB values.

If Josh McCown said that the Browns have a better quarterback situation than the Patriots, espn would be able to find a writer who thinks that he has a point
