I don't understand this, the NBA allows their players to do it (they don't test for marijuana during the offseason) why doesn't the NFL do the same? I think it would be a good stress reliever for some of these players recovering from injuries. It may also help them with their mental state too.

There is a reason why Medical Marijuana is a thing and why doctors prescribe it to some of their patients.

Someday national insitutions like the VA will recognize its value, and that will lead to a bunch of dominos falling into place..

If interested follow "Weediquette" on VICE TV, they do some good stuff about Marijuana.. particularly some stuff on how it helps children in Colorado with long term illness and the impact on Vets with a variety of injuries..

The problem with Medical Marijuana is that "Big Pharma" did not "discover it"... they have the most to lose, they would prefer to flood the market with Opiate Derivatives..

I think TB12 has it in his brownie recipe.

If you want to allow it fine, but please stop with the "medical" marijuana nonsense. It would be something that any player who wanted it could find a willing Doctor.
Yes players who don't need it prescribed will find it. The horror. You think that's any different now.

Football players are perfect candidates for medicinal marijuana. Why in the world would we want these guys using opiates for their pain if they don't have to? Too young with way to much to lose. Look at Nick Kaczur as an example. If 100 guys use it recreationally and one Kaczur is saved then that is a huge win.

Sports should not test for non-performance enhancing drugs, it just hurts the league and the players. If someone does crack it does not make them a better player so who cares

Exactly. So stop hiding behind "medical marijuana" when what you really mean is "legal marijuana."

I don't see why the NFL should test for it at all. Then again, I don't see why it isn't legal overall. And that's coming from someone that doesn't smoke the stuff and has no interest in smoking it.

The league that hands out narcotic painkillers like M&Ms recoils in horror at the very thought of pot. Makes sense to me.

I don't get why it's hiding when there are legitimate medical reasons. Even if it were made legal throughout the country one could make a good case for the NFL still not condoning recreational use(not saying the should or would) but the Medicinal value can't be argued.

Painkillers kill more people each year than any other drugs out there. The league probably has a big pact with this pharma companies and of course the government as well.

This exactly, Medical Marijuana helped a child avoiding from having extreme seizures. small doses daily has helped the child preventing from getting any seizures since starting the treatment.

I think Marijuana is the key to unravel brain problems/symptoms that some of these athletes suffer.

The NFL is already paying dearly for brain traumas, they should consider this path.
I think this will finally happen if Goodell finally gets replaced.

It has nothing to do with being a better player. It is about marketing image. The NFL owners make more money off of the image of the player being squeaky clean. Having them busted for illegal substances would cut into their revenues. They may or may not be right about that, but it has nothing to do with performance.
