Post Draft Scouting Report: Elandon Roberts, LB

Mike, I don't know if I agree with your following comment "He wraps up and rarely misses a tackle he should make". On the draft breakdown videos, he seems to be missing a lot of tackles. Just an observation, I know nothing about evaluating players or breaking down film but in the nfl I haven't seen a player miss this many tackles.

Interesting take pats_premi. In the games I watched, he was a very solid wrap up tackler. I have not watched his draftbreakdown stuff, but I will check it out. If he is not the tackler that I think he is, he brings little to no value to this team because he is already behind the 8 ball athletically.

I'm surprised you think he's a subpar athlete. He's almost identical in testing numbers to Lavonte David, although he is about an inch shorter. Otherwise, look how closely these all line up:

Height: 6005
Weight: 233
40 Yrd Dash: 4.65
20 Yrd Dash: 2.68
10 Yrd Dash: 1.60 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 19
Vertical Jump: 36 1/2
Broad Jump: 09'11"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.22
3-Cone Drill: 7.28

Height: 5113
Weight: 234
40 Yrd Dash: 4.60
20 Yrd Dash: 2.64
10 Yrd Dash: 1.67 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 25
Vertical Jump: 36
Broad Jump: 10'00"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.26
3-Cone Drill: 7.20

If Bill were looking for a LB at this pick, then he should've drafted the better-overall but more brittle
Travis Feeney, the more athletic but more raw Aaron Wallace, or the more accomplished Scooby Wright
or Eric Striker.

Having said that, I also believe that Roberts will make the team and eventually contribute on defense as
well as immediately contribute on STs.

He tested very well and I think when he is moving in a straight line, he is athletic. When he has to change direction he looks very stiff and out of balance. If I said he was a subpar athlete, that may have been a poor choice of words. He is not a special athlete IMO

Similar to Steve Beauharnais , where on paper + character build up ,would have you think we have the next great LB but it just never shown on the next level.

Not writing him off at all, just pointing out that this type of pick has happened before. Hoping he can develop and contribute as his character, playing style intrigues the hell out of me.
