DeMaurice Smith on Brady/NFL Settlement Talks

DeMaurice Smith on Brady settlement offer - NFL wanted Brady to implicate Dorito Dinks. Needless to say, #12, a man of integrity and character, refused to do so.

This is beyond belief.

The point here is that the NFL was so determined to save face that it insisted on publicly humiliating two ball boys as a non-negotiable part of any settlement.

I truly believe in my heart of hearts that Roger Goodell is a pathological liar, an amoral megalomaniac and a despicable human being, but even I am surprised that he would be this ruthless in his pursuit of justifying his bizarre overreach in this embarrassing spectacle.

Kudos to Brady for refusing to be part of this outrage.

He wouldn't do it because he didn't want to throw two ball boys under the bus. Wow.

NFL's mentality: "Hey Tommy, just throw those two guys under the bus and we'll let you keep some of your reputation in tact"

Tom's Mentality: "Hey NFL, GFY. Nothing happened." "Go find another way to explain your 20 million dollar self induced scandal"

I'll just put this out there: I would be upset, but could accept, Brady being forced to do the 4-game suspension, provided that Goodell was immediately removed from his position as commissioner, and banned from any form of future contact with the NFL, it employees or contractors, for life.

Man that's a tough one...

I think Tom playing does more damage to Goody by fighting and playing.

Need to think about it more.

Not me. I want the death penalty for The Dope.

**** the NFL so bad.

They wanted Tom Brady to roll on 2 low lifes like the rest of us? Come the **** on, that's awful.
What an arrogant douche, too good to throw his boys under the boys. Brady is so smug.

This is probably more insidious than you might think. Goodell dangled this 'offer' only as a way to get the 2 ball boys, after being outed by Brady, to in turn roll on Brady.

Nice point. I'd bet money you're right.

They would have released a statement with "Tom Brady insists the Ball boys did this on their own accord blah blah"

With that they make Tom look like crap, they get their little trash can worthy wells report validated, and they end their deflategate creation once and for all.

No doubt they were angling for that.

I am convinced that Roger was bullied when he was a child (I don't condone bullying in any way shape or form). The minute he was given the job as NFL commissioner he couldn't wait to act as judge and jury. His ego is getting the best of him and he can't think clearly when he has to hand down punishment for a violation. He is by far the worst commissioner in the history of all four sports leagues and second place isn't even close.

I agree with everything except I doubt he was bullied. If anyone bothered Roger in school his senator daddy would write a letter to school stating that said kid was more probably than not of bothering Roger and generally aware that Roger was a student and therefor should be expelled from school for not having a phone.

That would be tough. Tom missis 4 games but Goodell gets tossed out on his ass. Hmmm

Interestingly, Curran just this moment said on Comcast that McNally and Jastremski told Brady to go ahead and agree to the deal. They were ok with being scapegoated if that's what it took to settle. Brady offered 1 game for being uncooperative with no admission of guilt.
