Of course the goal is to win the championship and anything less would be falling short of complete success. There are, however, 32 teams in the league and only 1 victor each season, so there are other consolations that can be looked at to define a season as a success or not. For instance, I recall hearing that as long as Ohio State beat Michigan it would be considered a good year.

It's almost gotten to the point with the Giants. If someone told me that that we would lose only 1 regular season game that year, my reaction would be "Please tell me the one loss wouldn't be the Giants' game". They clearly have been a thorn in our side and deprived us extreme success multiple times (yes, we are spoiled).

The way that game played out, with the Pats being in a good position (winning by 1 and being on the Giants goalline) to throwing a pick and having the Giants score late. it all seemed like a bad movie that we've already seen but for some reason still can't look away. it would have been absolutely devastating to watch the Pats lose to them again.

Losing to the Giants is tough anytime but to lose to them when........

1.) They took the lead on a late score
2.) When we are undefeated

Well, I'm not sure I'd be able to bear it. That sooooooooo easily could have happened. On the first play of the Pats' last drive the defender was gift wrapped a game ending INT (only to have it somehow slip away from him). to see Brady march us down teh field (with a 4th and long mixed in there) and Ghost kick a clutch long field goal.......well.............that was amazing. That was the highlight of the season for me. (Yes, I know, it was subdued with Edelman's injury) but based on a one game result that was the highlight. This time the Giants had to watch their team come up short when victory seemed almost certain multiple times.

Winning the Super Bowl was priority number one, but if I had one other wish for the season it would be "beat the Giants".

Of all the absurd catches the Giants have made to win it, they couldn't make this one when Brady handed them the game

Worse yet for that Giant's defender is that I don't even think he needed to jump.

Last years win against the Giants excised a lot of demons. Probably the most satisfying regular season win of all time.

That was my favorite regular season win that I can remember in some time.

That game defined a bittersweet victory. That game was intense - everyone just knew we were going to get the Giants' best. Ecstatic to see Ghost's kick stay inside the upright, tempered by just knowing that something was bad wrong with Edelman (even if we did not yet know for sure).

Wow. Lotta great moments. I gotta rewatch that fugger. :D

I wish they played against each other every year.

Except the Super Bowl.

For me, I think the "beaucoup voodoo" mystique of the Giants went away wth this victory. Brady marches the team down the field, Butler BREAKS UP THE OBJ PASS (not he dropped it, sorry Gints fans), and Ghost split it through to seal it. It was such a weird way to win though. We won like Eli did against us in the past. We got intereptions, interceptions were dropped in the final Brady drive...and still a win.

Irrational fear of a team that annually sucks, and rarely makes the playoffs in a horrible division. OK, here comes the pathetic bleatings about how "They beat you azzholes twice in the SB!" Eli blows, Coughlin is gone and they just suck...

Butler is a gamer. He always makes big plays in the biggest moments. He's unafraid.

He seems blessed with the ability to remember the lessons from his mistakes without having to relive them.

That was an incredible let ur nuts hang win by this team. Afterwards I was sure they were on their way to another SB. Teams don't win road games in incredibly hostile environs on last minute drives, all while dealing w significant in game injuries, unless they're a special team.
But then the Miami game happened....

Make no mistake, the fear had nothing to do with talent. We've seen it over and over that any given Sunday team A can beat Team B even if Team B is a heavy favorite. Given the team's recent history and the gut punching losses we've suffered at their hands, I think the fear of another letdown would be highly justifiable.

Don't get me wrong, while I would hate hate hate to lose to them, going into the game I actually wasn't too concerned. Our talent far exceeded theirs and we were playing great.

Lo and behold though, it's late in the fourth quarter and our worst nightmares seemed to be coming through. We were an easy dropped interception away, a fourth and long away, or even a long field goal away from easily losing that game. So the fear of losing and having to watch them remove us from the ranks fo the undefeated was VERY real (yes, that's right, even with Eli being Eli, the team being bad, and Coughlin out of the picture).

I mean, could you imagine the terrible feeling of losing that game?

i re-watched that game over the weekend. so many dramatic moments in the second half:

3rd Quarter
11:21 OBJ drops pass on the sideline on 3rd and 7, Butler gets called for a phantom DPI for 21 yards
6:36 Amendola returns a punt 82 yards before getting clipped from behind by Duron Harmon--would have been a sure touchdown (Patriots eventually score a TD anyway)

4th Quarter
14:22 Ninkovich sacks Manning for 13 yards, puts them out of FG range (NYG was leading 23-17); NYG eventually forced to punt
11:51 76 yard TD pass to Gronk, longest of his career, puts Pats up 24-23
7:09 Blount scores 1-yard TD, nullified by holding on Andrews
6:10 Brady gets intercepted at the NYG 5-yard line
2:06 Butler's great play to knock the ball out of the hands of OBJ in the endzone
1:50 Brown FG puts NYG up 26-24
1:47 L. Collins drops a Brady interception
1:28 Brady hits Amendola for 12 yards on 4th and 10
0:19 Brady hits Amendola for 9 yards to get them into field goal range (Amendola makes a great spin move to get 5 extra yards)
0:06 Ghost hits the 54-yard FG which just curls around the left goal post

I don't want to get into it but I will always remember this game fondly for personal reasons. I am very glad they were able to win that day and it was as great as it was.
