We'll see, Jacoby

Under the new CBA Nick Foles is the only QB drafted in the 3rd round who did not get 100% of additional compensation. There have been 7 quarterbacks drafted in the 3rd round during the new CBA. Ryan Mallett who was drafted by the Patriots was one and he received 100% of additional compensation. It is _______ (fill in the blank with anything opposite of flattering) to consider Brissett less of a leader for wanting to be paid what other 3rd round quarterbacks have been getting paid. I had put the over/under for the let me be the first to criticize Brissett thread after Memorial Day. Sad to say that I was wrong.

As usual, thanks Miguel for the research and level headed response.

I kind of like the kid for wanting to understand all this himself, rather than outsource the business side to an agent. I'm choosing to interpret it as a positive sign regarding his character.

With the Brady situation, how long do the Patriots wait to get Garapolo's understudy firmly in place?
Do they need a fourth quarterback ASAP?

To be fair, they take a tiny percentage of the NFL contract itself. [The CBA specifically says that agent fees cannot exceed 3% of money paid, and according to Andrew Brandt, some agents voluntarily charge less than half the maximum to get players to sign.]

There are no restrictions on how much an agent can charge on an endorsement deal, and that may be where his reluctance lies.

Huh, I was under the impression that that signing with an agent to handle your NFL contract doesn't necessarily put the agent in charge of your endorsements -- that many players have separate marketing managers who handle that side of their business lives. Am I wrong?

It probably just depends.

Is this for real? He's going to sign, it's May for crying out loud. If they sign a 4th QB it won't be because of Jacoby Brissett's contract.

nope..it's all bad...it's always all bad...ever since 2000 it's just bad bad bad followed by more bad. I haven't been able to sleep since the draft because Jacoby Brissett remains unsigned. Now they'll have to sign a 4th guy for billions of dollars just to make up for this bad drafting. Why'd they have to draft THIS guy when they KNEW it was bad? Every season, the same thing, always bad. Bad bad bad.

Although it's sarcasm, if you would have added a "trade Brady" or "Brady sucks" line in there it would have been a picture perfect King of the oxidized specialty.

They will undoubtedly sign Fitzpatrick, thus dealing a mortal blow to the team that was otherwise favored to win the division this year (again).

I was always under the impression that the reason rookies sign their contracts asap is to protect themselves against a fluke injury. There isn't a lot of upside for them to draw it out, when there's not much to be negotiated. So, if the kid wants to take a more deliberate way and handle it himself, I totally respect it.

Doesn't diminish him in any way as a leader, to my mind. In fact, setting your own path and acting on your convictions is part of what Leadership is all about. So, he's in the plus column on my ledger.

Most,if not all, teams sign a waiver stating that if an unsigned draft pick is injured during rookie mini-camps they will treat him the same as if he were completely healthy.
