Cimini: "Jets won battle for Revis... did Pats win the war?" (hint: yes)

Both Revis and Cromartie are both way overpayed concidering their age and declining production. I don't see how even the biggest homer of a Jets fan would argue against that.

Screw them.

Revis does nothing unless his uncle, Sean Gilbert says OK.

He is pissed that Norman got a larger deal. I am convinced of this.

I swear if there was a penny on the floor, Revis would pick it up.
During his time with the Pats, Revis was a good soldier but in my mind, he'll be forever known as the Jet who needed the Pats to win a Super Bowl. Works out well for me.

What's selfish about it? People offer him cash to play a game, he takes it.

True, but if you were a diehard Jets fan, would you like him or not? I mean, he was their best draft pick in the last decade, they have had nothing but busts since (for the most part in Rd 1) and he's had them bent over the sink ever since, during that time.

I mean, I would be absolutely livid if BB did this to our team. Livid.

To know a player knowingly abused the idea his franchise was desperate to sell PSLs, have the dumb head coach gush about him daily to over-value his worth, to the point he controlled the franchise's fortunes in the cap era?

I would be livid. Just saying.

He's nothing more than a user. Mevis cares about Mevis. We couldn't have rented him for cheaper, for a shorter period of time or done better than we did, no doubt.

No, I wouldn't like him.
He didn't do any of the things you accuse him of, however. The management of the team did that. And he's never tried to pretend to be anyone other than who he is. He isn't "using" anyone, he's just taking what's offered him. He doesn't control the team's fortunes, because he doesn't make the decisions.

Agree.

I don't begrudge Revis a dime of what he's making. He didn't hold a gun to idiot Woody's head.

I don't care what Jets fans think about him.

I think BB has it right: he'd prefer to release a player a year too early than a year too late. That occasionally opens him to a lot of short term criticism out here, but in the long run it's been a proven formula and "nothing succeeds like success."

Wilkerson
Richardson
Vilmer
Keller

"Busts"?

What's not to like about Revis?

He came here for a year to help us win a championship. And then made sure the Jets would not win one by having them pay him a lucrative contract.

He's the gift that keeps on giving!

I agree. Some of the comments to the PFT article speculate that the firing of his agent was somehow a sign that he was about to hold out for a new contract. I doubt that personally but if he did that would be the frosting on the cake.

We helped him win. He helped us win. Mutual. Then he left to get his pockets fatter and we were in another AFCCG. He's declining. So, I couldn't care less about Revis or the Jets.

We The People need the Jets to continue to overpay Cromartie, until he's well into his 50's. He's fathered a small village, and if/when he runs out of cash, the rest of us will be left with the bill for making sure they don't starve or go homeless. It is in the country's best interest to make sure he stays with the Jets for as long as possible.

Mevis signed on the dotted line with the Jets for a small fortune with most of it up front. After he pocketed the large signing bonus he then complained about the lower pay at the back end of the deal that he signed. He then held out on his team. I cannot respect that in any way, shape or form.

I'd forgotten about that. Yeah, I have a problem with that, too.

And yet the Jests broke the bank to welcome him back with open arms (F.O. changes aside). I'd say I respect them a lot less than a man who helped us win a Title.

Little off topic but I love how a lot of threads have the (hint: no, or hint: yes) reference. Reminds me of that thread and how funny as Hell it was. :D

the jets are trash. end of ****ing discussion.

they haven't been relevant in about 50 years or so.

A little side note to the drama:
But whatever the reason, Revis probably made a big mistake, and it has nothing to do with money. Schwartz and Feinsod have a lot of media friends. Let’s put it this way, they are very helpful to journalists prone to present their info as though coming from inside the NFL.

Can you say “league source?”

So often when their clients struggle on the field, the media criticism is tempered. Some reporters don’t want to bite the hand the feeds them. If you rip their clients, the information spigot could get turned off. It’s the same way in political reporting.

Revis didn’t play particularly well for the Jets last year, but it was hard to tell based on most of the media coverage he received. His agents acted as great buffers for him. Now that they are gone if the cornerback struggles this year he will likely get hammered, since the reporters who were drinking from the Schwartz/Feinsod trough have nothing to lose

Bottom line, I hope we lock in Butler to a long-term contract and soon. If we let him hit free agency, he's as good as gone. It's hard to find bona fide #1 CBs who can stay healthy. And the open market will generally vastly overpay for those types of players.
