Vinatieri was almost booted from Patriots, says Francesa

Always came through when needed, except for that 29 yard field goal in San Diego :p

Wow, that is pretty interesting. and I suppose none of us would have griped about getting rid of a rookie kicker who just missed 4 straight field goals. In fact, we'd probably be more puzzled if they stuck with him.

It's also crazy to think that once this season begins he'll have played more seasons on the Colts than with the Patriots.

Isn't it funny that Parcells almost cut Vinatieri and actually cut Troy Brown? Those guys are such key components of the early Dynasty years and because of Parcells, the Pats almost didn't have either guy.

Good thing this guy actually DID make a clutch FG in SD. ;)

Speaking of which, anyone know where I could find a full vid of this game? I want to re watch it over the summer once basketball season is over.

It's on YouTube.

If this board was around in 1996 there would be 20 pages deep on the, "Vinitieri Needs to Be Cut". thread.

The calls for Matt Bahr to rejoin the team would be deafening.

Also hit the post and missed at the buzzer vs. KC in October '99. Pats were undefeated up to then and lost by 2 that day. But, man, the vast majority of the time he was "Money."

nothing to see here

Yes, that's the one that sticks out in my mind.....almost a great rally from Bledsoe and Co.

I suppose this chain does say something about us fans, though. After all, as you noted he is the clutchest kicker in NFL history (not just Pats history) and we are reliving the few times he missed.

Just speaking for myself, but I feel his misses stick out more in my mind because they happened so infrequently. I tend to not dwell much on the negative mainly because I go back to the very beginning in 1960 and remember all too well the massive suckitude that was this franchise for f###### decades.

Thank god that didn't happen because:

Trust me, I meant no 'ill will' towards you or anyone else. I just think it's human nature.

For instance, when Pro Bowl lists are created while we are curious about who made it, what we are really looking for is 'who are the biggest snubs'.

When someone posts a top 5 or top 10 list of anything on this board, the first thing we'll look to do is find the item that is missing that should be there.

It's human nature, watch I'm about to do it to the post right above this one.... :)

SignBabyBrady, let's not forget the game winning kick in the Saturday night ice bowl against the Titans in the 2003 Divisional Playoffs. That ball must've been as hard as a rock but somehow it seems he willed the ball over the goal post (he didn't have much room to spare).

Well he has four SB rings and a lot of Pro Bowls as well as going to be one of the most clutch kickers in NFL History and hopefully the HOF first ballot.
