TE Clay Harbor - What do we have here ?
An underrated under the radar signing ?
Or a JAG ?

This signing to me has me thinking, what do we have here ? Why did BB sign someone who has been relatively unknown and non productive. BUT, is he the Chris Hogan of TEs ?

Doing some digging, I spotted some combine numbers of Harbor's and I realized, this is a ridiculously explosive athlete.

  • 40 YARD DASH: 4.69 SEC
  • BENCH PRESS: 30 REPS
  • VERTICAL JUMP: 40.0 INCH
  • BROAD JUMP: 120.0 INCH
  • 20 YARD SHUTTLE: 4.37 SEC
Those numbers scream explosive, and I say to myself, why hasn't this guy been more productive in the NFL ? His measurables are ridiculous. I've read that he ran a 4.62 (Pro day ?). His vertical and broad jump are insane for someone 6'3" 260. Then 30 reps in the bench is impressive.

I think this guy will make the roster, obviously if he has a good camp. If some of the other unknown TEs have a great camp, he may be in a fight for a spot, one guy I wouldn't fall asleep on is Bryce Williams from East Carolina, and Mike Williams from last year may make it for his blocking abilities alone. But man, I like the explosiveness Harbor has, can he put it all together ? Don't wanna blame poor QB play as the reason, Harbor had his best season in Bortles rookie season, and was in Philly during the Vick/Foles era (when Foles had 2 good years).

With the 2TE offense it's not crazy to think they would carry 4 TEs instead of a FB. Personally I love Devlin and hope he sticks just pointing to another potential spot for Harbour.

Hooman 2.0

I don't think Clay Harbor will factor into whether or not the patriots win games

Not will, but they could do both.

Maybe not multiple, but perhaps one.

Don't forget the contributions of Hooman in our Super Bowl run, particularly that Ravens game.

Plus Hooman made a big contribution to the D line, in the form of Hicks, plus a bunch of plays including a lot of unappreciated blocking. Don't underestimate the guys who aren't as spectacukar as Gronk or Jues or TB.

As for Harbor, it depends on what he does with all those measurables when he gets on the field. Hopefully he does better at meeting or surpassing expectations than Chandler did. He's also got a lot more competition at the position, we'll see if he rises to the occasion.

Well i guess it depends what you mean by JAG. I think he is clearly good enough to be on a 53 in the NFL but do i see him as an under the radar steal? Nope. I do think at the end of the day the Pats will be happy they have him over Hooman as a 3rd TE. And i never disliked Hooman for what he was.

From his contract, it surprisingly looks like he is a lock to make the team. That's not a JAG contract to bring someone in just for camp competition. As much as it would be great to get James Develin back, Harbor's versatility with playing fullback could make Develin expendable.

They could but I don't see them carrying 5 TE/FB. Especially in a year where we will be carrying 3 QBs.

For the record I expect Gronk, Bennett, Harbour, and Devlin to be the four. I think Mike Williams will be the odd man out as he is pretty solely a blocker and having two beasts like Gronk and Bennett lessens his need and instead a Tackle eligible TE can take whatever blocking reps are left.

I'm wondering if he'll have a ST's role. He may have the sort of impact that doesn't show up on stat sheets because it will be hard on O to take reps away from Gronk and Bennett barring injury.

There's 11 guys on the field for every play in the kicking game and not all of them are about gunners and guys who recover fumbles or run the ball back.

That vertical is definitely impressive at 260. Must be able to throw down some nasty dunks. Then again another Clay in town was supposed to be able to dunk from the free throw line. So he's got that going for him.

Search for the murders replacement continues. Check out these numbers for murderer and Harbor.
M 6-2 245 4:64 30 rep 33v 9-3 bj 4:18 shuttle 6:83 3cone
H 6-2 252 4:69 30 rep 40v 10' bj 4:37 shuttle combine/team day 2010 draft,
both drafted r4 M # 113 H # 125 Difference in career may be because of injuries. Worth a good look, ifnot, maybe an udfa shows something.

As much as the Murderer should rot in hell he was very smart in this offense and could stop on a dime in routes.

Ive seen a little bit of Harbor and he strikes me as a more traditional TE.

We'll find out if Harbor is any good.

Offers some Hooman style versatility with more natural athleticism. I see Harbor as more of an H-back than a traditional tight end or fullback though. Hopefully he can chip in with a few key catches as everybody else will be paying attention to Gronk, Bennett, Edelman, Amendola, etc.

There's no way Harbor knocks Devlin off the roster.

Devlin has already proved his great value to the offense ... he was in a lot of snaps per game.
