I agree.

But it's a bit sad to consider that Gronk has shrewdly decided to maximize his popularity by appearing dumb.

Well, if there's ever an Archies movie...

It makes you wonder what would have happened to the Prisoner if his father hadn't died suddenly. I don't know if he would have ever been a Patriot, but I certainly think it far less likely he'd be in prison right now.

I dunna know. I don't have the background in psychoanalysis to comment with any substance. What I do know is that he died when AH was 16 and from experience having supportive, caring parents who pick their spots with the right mix of advice and dicipline at that age is critical.

I agree.

He doesn't appear to me to be dumb.

He doesn't appear to me to be dumb.

Example: When he went on whatever late night show it was and did a reading from "A Gronking To Remember", he claimed that this was the first book he'd read since 9th grade.

Does he Myface, Twit and used LockedOut?

He's being funny and coy.

Nobody should have taken it literally. But it was believable as a hyperbolic statement from somebody who didn't read much. And relatively few smart people would joke that convincingly in that way.

So if he thinks that playing uneducated/dumb makes him more appealing -- well, he's probably right, but if he is that saddens me.

No kidding. God forbid the youth in this country act educated.

One other thing about intelligence is that there are multiple kinds. Clearly, GRONK has the intelligence necessary to process the playbook and what he sees on the field. After all, to paraphrase BB, GRONK basically has to master the art of playing WR (IIRC, he lines up wide more than any other TE) and the art of playing as an extra OL.

He also has the social intelligence necessary to switch from "fun-loving guy" to "BB acolyte" when needed.

And he also has enough of a sense of numbers and money to manage those properly.

I don't want him performing surgery on me, but he's nowhere near a moron.

That's all it would be. An act.

Yep. If you ask the 18-30 crowd anything about domestic and international events and issues and the majority of respondents will either not know or provide a socialist-centric viewpoint.

Kudos to the minority of that group.

Yea thats what I do not doubt. If you ask the 18-30 crowd anything about domestic and international events and issues and the majority of respondents will either not know or provide a socialist-centric viewpoint.

Young people have always oversimplified politics. In this country in this era, that's mainly socialism, libertarianism, or extreme conservatism (Christian or secular as the case may be). In too many other countries violence of various kinds (revolutionary, fascist, white supremacist, tribal-grievance and/or Islamic as the case may be) is also in the mix.

From what I know, he's living off his endorsements, and hasn't touched a penny of his salary. All of that is reserved for his post-getplaying days. Talk about being smart.

If he is that smart with his money (and obviously brilliant when it comes to establishing his marketing brand, which will bring him big $$$ in the future), I am looking forward to the day that he buys the Patriots, imagine the post-Super Bowl parties! :D

He comes damn close but I agree.

I also agree. Gronk is certainly not a Mensa Society member but I think he's very situationally aware, knows the line and has good people advising him that care about him personally.

Clearly his party-hard persona and play on the field are translating into major endorsement $$.

He knows exactly what he is doing.

Didn't I read that Gronk claims he has never spent a salary check and lives on his endorsements, investing the rest.?... That sounds like someone who has a very shrewd investment team around him ( like Larry Holmes the boxer- he retired owning a great many commercial properties in Easton PA thanks to his mangement team) and will be very well set when he retires.

Some athletes are very good with their money....Holmes, Bird....Hell Magic and MJ are worth about 5-600m each.
