The Patriots might surprise us by letting most of their 2017 prime ( and expensive) free agents
test the market.

dude's awesome

but his cap hit for 2017 is almost 8M, so by this time next year, he's gonna suck

Either restructures or is gone. If Hogan or Mitchell or both develop chemistry with TB he'll most likely be gone next year.

Just hope he can restructure. As he is an underrated but great player!

Not with $70m-$80m available in cap space for 2017

With what he has done, I am going to eat every bloody chicken in this room if he is cut, then I will use 20 good men to storm Foxboro.

Losing Bennett will hurt? Why don't we see him in a Pats uniform first? LOL.

I believe our big priorities are extending Collins and Malcolm Butler this year. Those two are key players on our defense going forward. We should extend now while we can offer reasonable deals. If they are allowed to test free agency expect them to command annual monies of 9m, 10m and up.

Edelman should get an extension and a raise. After that I think Hightower should be the first domino to fall. And although many here probably won't agree I think they should do everything possible to extend Bennett, I think his impact on the offense is going to be huge and losing him after one season will really hurt.

The Patriots have Butler under control for the next three seasons.

As far as Bennett goes I'll just let people come to their own conclusions, I already know what I want to happen.

Priority N1 is Hightower.
(lock a heart of defense, expand 2016 cap space, wait for another RB FA/trade opportunity)

Assuming the Pats don't lowball them, make a fair offer and the reject it they will let them test the market.

If Dobson lights it up in TC, it would still be difficult to keep him over other WRs, just because he has been disappointing and fragile, and it would be difficult to expect him to keep up the TC performance into and through the regular season.

To even be in the conversation though he need to be healthy and an elite performer in the pre-season.

Never underestimate a players determination on putting together 1 good year to get a vastly overpriced contract in FA!

Similar to Shane Vereen, I'll be pretty pissed if Dobson decides to wait until year 4 of his deal after missing most of his career with injuries to date and then performs "well" in his final year and gets a beefy contract from another team

Vereen mastered that lol

I'm going to disagree here and say collins is #1 priority.

Hightower is a very good MLB, one of the best in the league, BUT, Jamie collins is a generational player. speed size and technique means if he keeps playing like he currently is, people are going to talk about him when they discuss the histories Great Linebackers.

they really need to resign both though, two amazing players.

If they can get two of three putt

Butler is a patriot as long as we are willing to pay ANYTHING someone else will offer. Most folks here don't think that anyone would give us a first for Butler. This is pretty amazing given who folks have suggested trading for a first in the past.

I think the Patriots have the two best TEs in football on their team and when Patriot fans get a whiff of how nasty and dominant this team can be in this offense they aren't going to want him going anywhere. If any team tries to double Gronk they are going to have Bennett roaming free downfield. And his presence should dramatically improve their run game. Imo this is the best acquisition they have made since Moss.
