Jacoby going without an agent.

Yeah, especially signing here. Not calling BB or Caserio dirtbags, they just do what's best for the team as the player wants to do what's best for them but, I wouldn't take any chances. These guys are crafty. Managed to get both Vince and Branch on real nice rookie deals back in the day.
I'll bet Logan Mankins would tell Jacoby that's a bad move. Not for nothing, but the Patriots treated him unfairly in that whole Rookie deal episode. He had good reason to be pissed IMO.

Being a highly paid celebrity and not hiring an agent is one step below insisting that you don't need a lawyer while talking to the police in the "stupid things you should never do" list.

I don't know if I'd necessarily say unfairly, but Pats got a real nice deal...glad that hasn't been hard feelings at the end of the day. I think Mankins has spoken well of the Pats since he left.

Works for some guys like Bruschi...but like I said, I sure as hell wouldn't try it.

I think as a whole, you're definitely right, but there's really not much to debate as a third round pick with today's pre-determined rookie wage scale.

I'm sure there are a couple of points of contention that may delay the signing a bit, but he's also going to save 3 percent of the value of the pact. I can appreciate where he's coming from in this particular instance.

Did Bruschi have one when he was a rookiee? It's one thing to not have an agent if you've spent years in the league, understand the business, and have a good head on your shoulders. Even then I wouldn't recommend it but at least I can understand.

I don't think the then vs. now comparisons for Bruschi are necessarily valid, because rookie deals were much more lucrative as opposed to the boilerplate rookie pacts of today which occur under the new rookie wage scale.

I'd be much more leery about attempting to sign a veteran deal (worth much more money) than I would as a rookie, where the parameters have already been defined by the pick in front/behind you.

If you assume a 4 year/(approx) 3 million dollar deal similar to the one that Ryan Mallett signed as a 3rd round rookie pick, Brissett will save about 100,000 dollars by completing the task himself. That's a nice chunk of change, particularly when you're entering the league and don't have much money.

I don't care who his agent is, just let me know when he signs.

He has a representative--Bill Parcells. How many rookie contracts do you think Parcells has seen in his career? Bill is doing this kid a solid and saving him the 3%. If he makes it to a second contract, you can be sure that he'll have an agent.
