REPORT: Danny Amendola and the Patriots have agreed to restructure contract

The best part about this is it just adds to the list of guys, and the mentality where players are here to win, and the realization that doing so requires a team of players who aren't trying to make every last penny and run the team dry. Brady. Gronk. Edelman, Danny, and a few others. All making less then they could elsewhere. I hope this sets a precedent in the locker room for players like Hightower, Butler, and Collins. Also Soldner when its time to resign or restructure.

And not only does it set a positive example for the guys coming up in 2017 but it builds a solid foundation for the rookies who just signed their rookie deals. This says, "if you work hard enough and want it bad enough, not only will you be rich, you'll be a winner."

Win-Win for both sides. DA has come through when needed. Good chemistry with TB and Tom doesn't have to break in a new a receiver.

I thin Martin's roster p;s position is safe.

Lucien and Nate Washington are pretty good competition for the last spot. Slater's roster spot is on the line with this development and the imperative to keep a 3rd quarterback.

I'm thrilled that Amendola and the Patriots worked this out. He's a core guy on offense, and a tremendous kick returner. He's fearless in the open field and, when healthy, a sure-handed, reliable receiver. He took too much criticism, in my opinion, his first year when he kept playing with a serious groin injury that decimated his productivity.

Congrats to all all involved.

I also wonder about Slater. He is a Pro Bowl luxury.

With that said I shudder to think how much worse STs would be without him.

A season or 2 ago I would have never thought I would be saying this but I am really glad to hear Danny will be sticking around for 2 more seasons. He contributes a lot as a slot WR and on STs.

DA is just trolling you now. ;)

I figured he'd do it. I never understood why some fans didn't like this guy. He's made bigger catches than Welker EVER did in the postseason and he's as tough as anyone on the team.

Great teammate, good player, holds lots of value.

Good on him, but he's not going to find it any better than he's got here and he knows that.

His 54 grabs and 4 TDs on a torn groin in 2013 showed me a lot.

There's been some really great STs Aces through the NFL in the last 30+ years since I've been watching the NFL, but none are better than Slater.

Tasker obviously comes to mind immediately, but Slater has almost made what he does into an art form. He's doubled every time and still makes the play. It's insane how consistent he is.

Agreed. It's pretty much a dependable depth WR vs. players that might have higher upsides in Dobson, Harper, Lucien, and Wilson. If one of them could do something in camp that'd be nice but Martin probably takes the last spot.

edit: Forgot about Washington. Dang we have some depth.

Always liked Washington and I am not just saying that because he signed here. I think he has a good shot to make the team behind Hogan as an X and a Z back up to Edelman.

Crafty route runner, good hands, etc. Last year, when NE played Houston, I had suggested Butler go on him because Ryan and McCourty would be better doubling up on DeAndre Hopkins, mainly because Hopkins needed to be doubled in man and Butler would be busy with Washington all by his lonesome.

Proved to be true.

I have a hard time not keeping Martin.

BB keeps 6 usually not really counting Slater.

It will come down to Washington (the Gibson of this year) and Martin.

Martin's advantage is he can return kicks which should save someone like a Cyrus Jones from having to do it.

I love Amendola, so underrated...

Agreed. I don't get why some of our fans, probably the younger ones, exude so much anger towards the good, solid offensive players who aren't All Pro.

Not everyone can be involved enough to be a star here. It doesn't work that way.
He was. About 3 chicks ago.

Christ, she's cute. And she not only likes football, she has a clue. Schwingtastic.

Exactly. Its easy to justify him being cut as they COULD pick up a better WR/FS/SS type player but his contributions on all 4 ST units it easily justifies his roster spot, cap hit and salary. Plus hes a helluva leader.

I disagree with the part in bold. Slater's spot is not on the line in any way, shape, or form. He's a team captain and arguably one of the top 3 special teams players in the league.

People more likely to lose their job than Slater? Cannon. Freeny. Jackson. Develin. Bostic. Fleming. Waddle. etc. etc.

Oh, come on.

Hes not going anywhere but you could argue that they save $1.1m on the cap by cutting him this year.

Even a cheap skate like me wouldn't do that. Hes way too valuable.

For him to lose his job, a player would have to come in and play ST every practice and every preseason snap at an All-Pro level.

Not happening.

Can't stand em. It's why I quit fantasy football just over 10 years ago. Well, that, and because my clueless gf joined our league and beat me. haha

Nothing personal to fantasy football nerds, but if you're basing your analysis off of stats, you don't get the sport.

Good DA is a perfect fit for what we do here and seems to worked his way in as one of Brady's guys. Glad to see he wants to be here.

I'm happy to see that Amendola will be remaining with the team; he plays hard and provides a real spark to the offense. This is a great development.
