REPORT: Danny Amendola and the Patriots have agreed to restructure contract

I have a hard time not keeping Martin.
Hopefully he gets beaten out by Lucien or someone, if not he's an OK #5. But between Lucien and Washington it'll be a battle for him, Edelman, Amendola, Hogan, Mitchell, probably just one more spot for a WR. Martin, Washington, Lucien, two probably go.

I was getting hammered for months on suggesting this.

DA is great. I'm glad hes here.

You were getting hammered for suggesting they release him, not a restructure. Releasing him made absolutely no sense when they were already done with free agency, this restructure makes all the sense in the world.

I love this, I think Amendola has played through serious injury, has been a big play player in the biggest games, and is exactly the kind of player they are looking for, and his two paycuts in two years demonstrates that.

Wow, 2 pay cuts in 2 years. Not a lot of players would be okay with that, even if it is Amendola's only way not to get fired.

My opinion of him has gone up tremendously.. it can't be easy from a financial or ego stand point to do that...

The fact that he did means he loves this team and really wants to be here.. that's pretty ****ing awesome!

Unfortunately for him his playing in the past years dictate his market, he didn't have much options, if he didn't agree he would get the same kind of offer in the market. Might as well keep playing for a winning team instead of going to Tampa or Cleveland.

Disagree completely, given this year's free agent payouts Amendola could have held fast and gotten more than this elsewhere.

Well, that and the Edelmendola bromance stays alive. :D

Seriously, though, this is great news, and I hope serves as a wakeup call for a certain overpaid OT. . . .

He must really like being in New England. I hope that he can stay healthy for a full season this year. This deal is much more conducive for what he's given the team in the past and what he projects to give the team going forward.

You have to love the job they have done upgrading the depth at WR, it's going to be an intense competition for roster spots.

Miguel has us at about 4.9 million in cap space on twitter. This move should get us to 8-8.5 million.

More than enough for in season operations and potential deadline trades. Arian Foster has only about two teams left that he could start for (Pats, Dolphins). When he's healthy in a couple months he could be an option at RB for 1-3 million.

Well. I am happy.

Danny knows the offense and is a true Patriot. Those mic'd up segments with Edelman did a lot for me. Just seeing how much Edelman trusts him (now Brady does too), it makes me happy he is staying.

This should put that stupid meme to bed, somewhat...

Agree. I love Edelman and I think he's as tough as they come but even he has trouble staying healthy. The NFL is a tough place to be for smaller receivers, and having redundancy at such a crucial position is critical for Brady and the offense.

In some ways he reminds me of Faulk or Troy Brown. You really appreciate him more as time goes by. he is NOT your headline player, he is more like the ligaments and tendons that keep the huge muscles attached and working. LOVE having him back, and LOVE that he GETS that making MILLIONS to play with a team he loves, is better, for him, then getting paid MORE Millions, to just play anywhere.

I think Miguel had them around 5.5 with the rookies taking 4.0 of that. This would probably give them the money to cover LTB earned conditions but they could probably still use a little more for in season pick ups.

If I'm off I'm sure there are many here who can set me straight.

Happy to keep Amendola around, he is a warrior.

As Miguel noted in another post, the rooks will eat up about $1M of that (the rest of their hits either don't count or are already counted).
