Garoppolo is the last piece of the puzzle

My thinking may be extremely optimistic but if Garoppolo performs well during Brady's absence we could flip him for a first round pick and more. We have a replacement in house already thanks to this draft.

Garoppolo would give us back the first round pick we lost this year and it would all be because of the suspension giving him a chance to play.

Brady is 40. why would we ever trade Jimmy if he is good? thats just ridiculous

The issue here is I think projections of a first round pick are wildly optimistic for JAG and truthfully, until Brady shows me he cannot complete passes, he plays until he's 50 if he's capable.

IMO, a lot of the time, people overestimate a player's worth or what he would command at the trade table because he's theirs. We're no different here.

If reports of the the Browns being close to drafting Garoppolo in the 1st round instead of Manziel are accurate, then how are hopes of a 1st rounder wildly optomistic?

If JG plays well in lieu of Brady and is healthy, them I expect there will be competition for JG should the Pats be willing to trade him and a 1st is not unrealistic at all.

I agree. What made it unlikely that the Patriots could get a good return on Garrapolo was his lack of real playing time and the opportunity to show what he could do. If he does play this fall and plays well it changes his value dramatically. There are numerous examples of bank ups getting traded for high picks after showing they could play at this level, Rob Johnson and May Cassel being examples who come to mind immediately. What they will be able to get will obviously depend upon who needs a QB and what he shows on the field.

If Brady shows signs of decline this season then it will change the equation significantly, however if he has another great season with no sign he is declining then they will look to trade Garrapolo and develop Brissett.

IF TB misses 1st 4 and JG plays well(i believe he would), then yeah, a 1st round pick is highly possible. But what none of y'all are considering is this: TB may well not miss ANY games. Very real possibilty. Then JG is still unproven commodity and maybe a 2nd rounder.

so you think we will trade a proven commodity, and essentially disregard the fact that we have a 41 year old QB (even if hes great again)? thank god youre not GM

Whereas you would have traded Brady after Cassel went 11-5.

Not "missing it" at all, that's why I conditioned it with "if."

Sorry man-missed the "if". mea culpa. Im no longer sweating the whole thing. I think either way, TB missing the 1st 4, or none at all, Pats will be fine and most likely afc team in SB. My ONLY fear is the case gets decided in late december/early january and doesnt go our way. Then our SB hopes are done. I can GUARRANTEE that winning the SB is more important to Tom than winning the court case. And wining the SB is the ultimate win vs. the nfl anyway-because the scam was created to STOP the Pats from winning the SB. So it would be a MUCH bigger FU to the nfl than wining the case. Thats why i think if Toms legal team tells him a decision coming down at playoff time is a real possibility-my guess is Tom says drop the case. He can then still pursue defamation-and it wouldnt be weakened at all.

Brady is 38, and under contract for 4 more seasons. Garoppolo is only signed for 2 more seasons.

How many 1st round picks did the team get for Cassel after he went 11-5? 0? I thought so. Even if JG plays well they won't get more than a 3rd round pick for him. If Brady plays after 40 it will truly be uncharted territory for an elite QB. 4 more years would be wildly optimistic. Enjoy it while you can!

I don't know. I get your point about missing the playoffs and possibly the SB but I still think he should go the distance, if he doesn't it will be cited as proof of guilt forever, and to me his reputation deserves to be cleared so I would support him regardless of the consequences.

They got the 33rd pick in the draft.

How many years did Cassel have on his contract when the Pats traded him?

"0"

The Pats franchised him and took pennies on the dollar to get value for him while avoiding the cap hit.

If Garoppolo plays well and the Pats win 2-4 games with him at QB, then the Pats will get at least a 1st for him, and likely have a choice of offers.

If he plays well enough, the Pats may decide not to trade him period.

stating the obvious

1 - brady is either playing or not playing
2 - if brady is not playing garoppolo is playing
3 - if brady is playing garoppolo is not playing

beyond that, if Cassell could bring #33 and came with a franchise tag, 4 good games will be all anyone needs to see to part with a first rounder for JAG that comes with one more year of rookie deal. it would be much better value than any QB available in the draft.

I'm sure many teams take into account the player's original draft pick. Cassel was a 7th rounder who didn't even play in college and we got a very high 2nd rounder for him. Jimmy G. was a second rounder who appears to have a much higher ceiling than Cassel as well as much more actual playing time.

Grop will not be traded until after the season ...
unless there's a team desperate for him due to injury and a capable vet can be obtained cheaply.

If Brady has to serve the suspension Brissett goes on IR in week 5 to stash him and open a roster spot.
There's no way Belichick relies on Brissett to play any meaningful minutes this year.

Best scenario Jimmy plays lights out,
Brady comes back bests the td record and we go 19 and 0
Brady retires on top
Grap takes the reins
Rinse and repeat.
Or...Brady plays all 19 and wins them all and breaks the touchdown record.
