It's easy, and only takes a few moments.Clearly they weren't going to pick it up but mildly surprised they didn't work out some kind of a 2yr deal.Because it would cost them around $11 Million if they did, when the season has yet to start and we don't know what he's made of

Like I said, oh well.
So does this mean they traded Chandler Jones for a guard/maybe swing tackle and a WR coming off an acl?????
They can still do a new deal before he becomes a free agent next year. This means nothing except that, short of a new deal, he'll be a FA next year. But it doesn't prohibit a new deal.Clearly they weren't going to pick it up but mildly surprised they didn't work out some kind of a 2yr deal.

Yea maybe I'm just a generous guy at heartI think it's too early for that. I'm hopeful that he'll do well and they can work something out, but no one is paying Jonathan Cooper $11 million next year based on past performance.
This announcement just makes official what we already knew, and what the Pats said when they traded for him.
Am I not understanding how this all works? I thought the 5th year was ONLY guaranteed for injury so they could have that extra year and just cut him in March when it likely doesn't work. Are they worried he could get hurt and knowing there's almost noway he's worth that much that they don't want to chance something major happening to him?
I hope trading Chandler won't hurt our pass rush, chandler gets underrated sometimes. He was our leader. Our heart and soul.
Pats Decline Cooper's 5th year Option
Oh well.
That thins out the G blockade a little..
Was hoping the raw talent would surface here.
I don't think anyone is surprised the Pats didn't pick up Cooper's $11M option, the surprise is that they declined it today. I just thought that they had a lot more time to make that choice. Again, it should be emphasized that there is a snowball's chance in hell he would have played up to the level of an $11M guard, just that the Pats tend to take their time in making these decisions. If Cooper has a crazy good year, the fifth year option would have been some leverage, but I guess they decided otherwise.
