There are better uses of cap money than having Dobson and Kline on the roster. There is no reason to risk either of them getting injured.

Kline's not very good, but neither is the rest of the interior OL. He's got just as much of a chance as anyone. More than, say, Barker.

Dobson and Washington will fight for a roster spot.

I don't even think that there will be 5 WR's on the roster. I don't see how Dobson and Washington are fighting for an additional roster spot. At best, they both are competing for Martin's spot. I would note that Lucien and Harper are also competing for that roster spot.

There is $1.5M to be saved by cutting Kline. I agree that Barker also will have no place on the 53 man roster, but see no issue with him being on the roster through Training Camp.

I don't understand why they would cut a 13 game starter because they're so worried about his $950k salary being guaranteed if he gets hurt. If his shoulder is still an issue, then don't let him practice. If his shoulder is fine, then his contract isn't bad at all for a backup or starting guard.

If Kline were still consider a possible starting guard (your words), then we wouldn't have added Cooper, Thuney and Karras, after adding Mason, Jackson and Andrews last year.

Who on that list is ensuring that Kline doesn't start in 2016? They obviously wanted more competition and have gotten that, but I don't see two guys guaranteed to start over Kline. And if he's not starting, then his contract is not at all excessive for a backup guard given that it is so heavily incentivized.

You seem to be implying that Kline will very clearly not make the roster. I don't agree with that at all.

OK, I'll bite:

- Cooper is a total question mark
- Thuney's position is TBD
- Jackson was a mixed bag as a rookie
- Karras is a late-round pick
- Andrews is a pure center
- Mason might be best at center as well

Honestly, is there a single OG on the roster who you feel confident would start over Klein? Yes, I hope and believe they'll end up doing better than him, but I see no reason to cut him at this point.

Martin is nowhere near a lock for me, and Mitchell, a 4th rounder, long shot to be cut but I don't think there is a pattern like the 16 years BB never cut a 4th rounder, I just think in these 16 years all 4th rounders were worth the pick.

Also Amendola cap may be an issue, Cyrus Jones is a good returner and there is a logjam of receivers with similar frame.

Dobson has been a disappointment but the Pats are not being competent to draft/sign or develop a receiver with that skillset with the exception of one year of Lafell. In spite of catching the ball with his body and all that lack of confidence that interferes in his play Brady seems to have confidence in him, I don't think he is cut until the end of training camp.

About 4 or 5 receivers, I hope they go with 5 and if they can squeeze some other I will be ok with that. This team totally needs quality depth in this position.

Kline isn't great, but he's at least a JAG. Some of these other guys haven't even reached JAG status yet.

worried about shaq. he cant pass protect worth ****

tre seems like your classic average satisfactory type of o-lineman.

Except that Andrews isn't a guard. He's a center. He's never played guard so including him in the guard conversation is a stretch.

Decent chance Lucien beats out Mitchell

Cooper and Thuney basically bring the OL up to it's full complement. Kline plays both LG and RG and played 77.3% of the offensive snaps in 2015. Jackson had 54.6% and Mason 65.7%. I'm not a big Kline fan but I don't see anyone on the roster to challenge his spot right now. There are too many question marks concerning others on the OL to be comfortable in getting rid of Kline right now.

I wouldn't shed a tear if they cut Dobson, he will get a chance to compete but he faces much tougher competition for a roster spot then before.

Dante is back so give Kline a shot at turning things around.

I dont think amendila will be cut/traded but i dont think he is a lock either. I agree it would still be tough for dobson to get that 5th spot but i imagine he'll have every opportunity to.

And we dont really have any proven guards so wouldnt give up on kline yet.

I would keep Kline and hope he's beaten out by the young 'uns in a few months. Same with Dobson although his chances of winning a job seem small.

Amendola is different, he'd only be cut due to money. I'd make our legitimately best offer to him, take it or leave it. If he rejects, out of respect for what he's done for us, I'd let him go early to have the best chance at a good landing spot.

Let's look at this full complement of TWELVE players.

C: Solder, Andrews
OT: Solder, Vollmer, Cannon, Thuney, Waddle, Fleming
OG: Cooper, Mason, Jackson, Kline
