Check out this speech from our new LB Elandon Roberts. He gets everyone fired up on the team. Then he plays his heart out on the field. Love it!

Bonus material. He puts the smack down on new Brocno Paxton Lynch:

Awesome.

I'm going to cross-post my reply on the Binkies thread, this can be the official Elandon Roberts love thread now.

Elandon Roberts reminds me of Chris Borland coming out of Wisconsin in 2014. Undersized, phenomonal tackler and an incredible worker.

Borland put up amazing stats in his rookie season, after not even starting in September - 107 tackles, 1 sack, 2 INTs, 5 PDs.

There's a few obvious differences - Borland had a ridiculous 3 cone time at his pro day, despite running a very average 40, and his extra weight suited him to playing 3-4 ILB for San Francisco, whereas Roberts is definitely a 4-3 LB in our scheme.

Man, Roberts really terrorized Lynch - sacks him, intercepts him. You almost wonder if Bill saw Elway take Lynch and so he drafted Lynch's worst enemy.

proud of new characters coming our way
great character IQ heart draft

so many great off the field stories
looking forward to some on the field

Very interesting prospects at the back end of this draft. Not going to argue this pick at all. Tremendous upside for sure.

Which linebacker spot does he project to? Middle? Not so great at differentiating those positions, so I generally assume the coverage guy goes Will, pass rushing hybrid goes Sam, and the tackler goes Mike. But of course there's a lot of overlap and exceptions.

I think a good MLB is just what we need so Hightower and Collins can both play outside to their strengths.

Looks like he plays really fast going downhill..... sideline to sideline though? Not so much from the highlights I've seen.

Watching highlights of the navy game, he seemed to be the qb spy against the triple option the whole game. He just gets in the backfield so quickly.

I don't see how he makes an immediate impact on D with his current skillset. Undersized to be playing LB on this team. Could be a nasty ST player or SS conversion if he isn't able to gain weight.

He has a legit shot at making this team and playing a little on D

I doubt belichick will cut him his first year
If he isn't working out he will cut him or trade him. He did that with a player last year who was drafted in the latter rounds. I forget his name

if he's really bad, then yes. i mean he has kept aaron dobson and kept jake bequette for a while and they added nothing.

Tedy Bruschi wasn't much different than Roberts.. Bruschi is 6'0 and was 240-250. That's what? 6-14 lbs difference? I could easily see him being a MLB/ILB on this team with his current skillset.

Yes, I see Roberts playing on special teams to start with, but no way he goes to playing SS.. That would require too much weight loss.

5'11" is tiny for a LB in today's NFL

They thought so.

I think it was Matthew Wells or Xzavier ****son to the Bears.

He'll be lucky to be the liver or kidneys. Special teams or cut.

He weighs the same as Chancellor (everyone's measuring stick for a thumper SS). From what I've seen, OL tend to blow him up at the LOS when they get their hands on him. He's just gonna have to grow a lot in either skill or weight to play on D.

Give him some time in the Pats weight room and at the training table, then we will see how he looks.. another piece of our mix and match defense.

Cannot get taller, but can add some bulk.. safety might be interesting.
