So how do YOU grade the Patriots draft?

Well, normally I throw a hissy fit in the draft thread, declare the draft BB's biggest failure yet, noting that such a thing is truly an accomplishment in and of itself. Then I spend the next few months grousing about all the great players other teams picked. After that I'll eventually forget to root against the people dumb ol' Bill picked because some of them will start doing well, and within a season or two act like I was their fan all along and never bring up the huge meltdown I had on draft day.

Then the next time the draft comes along I repeat this process, but usually I'll bring up the 2 or 3 misses Belichick had as an example of how bad he is at drafting but conveniently leave out that I hated the McCourty or Jamie Collins picks so much that I basically called Belichick an idiot.

That's how I normally do it.

I've broken it down into parts.

A+ on BB and Casario for all the people who whined about the picks. I love it when BB does that! HAHAHAHAHA! It's so amusing seeing people moan and complain in the draft thread.:D

Now the serious stuff.

F for the war room. WTF is that spineless hack Benedict "Roger's doing a great job" Bob doing in there. BB and Casario should have told him to SOD off!

Now the players. Cautiously optimistic about Mitchell because the Patriots had him run some routes from the playbook so I'm hoping they know he can get the offence. Hopefully Cyrus Jones can contribute right away but I'm really high on Justin Coleman so I hope Coleman can make the next step. CB competition should be very interesting. RB competition should be interesting too.

I hope the two linebackers pan out, I'll be pulling for them both.

Giving out a grade is plain stupid. How do you grade something before it's all over? I mean they haven't even started. Come on people!o_O

this was a weak draft class IMO and no first round picks i dont see any of the players they drafted being any more then dept and ST i still think they should have draft a RB i give them a C-

Considering the first round pick was stolen and Brady is suspended again I'll chalk it up as a solid A+ for the NFL front office and all the owners sick and tired of seeing the Pats in the top 4 every year.

However the Pats had a fantastic free agency and a ok draft despite the enemies best efforts.

I hope the Pats "cram it up their cramhole."

draft rating M ......... mystified, but intriguing players. I really wanted a move up in the second for Spriggs, GB got him at 48.......

How can anyone not like the late picks?

We have two LB's who might compete with Freeny, Johnson and Bostic for the 1-3 backup LB/ST roster spots.

And we got the #1 sleeper in the entire draft in Lucien.

Oh yeah. We also got a student for Scar's PS OL academy.

I just watched the BB presser. He seems to be in a good mood. Even dropped a few "snapface" in the press conference! :D

No draft expert but after digging around a little, B-.

Would have liked a RB (especially in place of the Brissett pick, just don't really see why there was a need to pick him, doesn't seem like that good a QB where you say you have to draft him). Not that critical with the Jones pick, saw a couple of mocks which had him going to us with one second-rounder, so it wasn't a Wilson-esque out-of-nowhere reach. Should be able to compete for the slot-corner spot and replace Logan Ryan a year from now.

Thuney sounds like solid pick and more OL is always good considering how bad the unit was last year.

Valentine does seem like a reach, but he has very good measurables for a guy his size and they are obviously changing their philosophy on the DL towards bigger space-eating DTs with Branch, Knighton and now Valentine on the roster.

Like the Mitchell pick, Lucien also seems a good use of a seventh rounder. No opinion on the sixth-round choices.

I would give them a B. With no 1st round pick and picking near the bottom of the 2nd draft, it's hard to find quality starters. To me this was an add depth type draft for the Patriots. With 8 RB already on the roster, it's not surprising that RB wasn't a high priority in the draft. It looks like the Patriots addressed their most pressing needs through FA and used the draft to add depth.

We got a CB high, most NFL offense goes thru the air but he is good in run support and has good hands. Check, good move.

Big athletic 330 pounder for the middle to occupy blockers and keep guys in the second level clean. Check, good move.

Got a couple WR's to see if something sticks. One is 5'11, familiar with option routes and has the wheelhouse of a 6'3 WR. Check, good moves.

Got Scar some athletic, versatile guys to mold to form. Check, good moves.

ST mavens. One LB who runs 4.45 @ ~220LBS. Some solid returners and another gunner. Check, good moves.

QB in the third. Allows flexibility with Garoppolo, we can move him without exposing ourselves to having a QB2 fresh outta the womb. Standard operating procedure, not a need but no surprise here.

UDFA crop landed DJ Foster who seems exciting and the late round package deal to secure a 4th next year is a very solid move.

Overall tough to hate, if nothing needs to go thru baggage claim I'm feeling like we are in a good position to improve areas of deficiency (mainly OL and god awful ST play, would have been happier with +1 OL pick), and set up to survive another cycle of back end roster turnover.

C+. We weren't in the position to count on any pick to become a starter.... so they filled spots as best they could (slot corner/swing OL/ST killer)

If Thuney can play T in his first year better than cannon is right now, then B-.

On top of that, if we had taken a RB instead of a QB.... B.

Ok...no one knows how ANY of these guys turn out....but what is your INTIAL feeling on how BB and Co did withe the draft?!?
It looks like a speculative gamble to me and truthfully, I need to learn much more about the players. I like the Jones pick a lot, mainly because I love guys who compete and I'm very curious about Lucien and Mitchell but moving past that, I'm not sure. It's a better question for the draftniks who I am more than happy to defer to.

Hate QB pick, hoped for Sean Davis, wanted Javon Hargrave and Justin Zimmer, they ll try Thuney at LT, so cannon is here next year if Vollmer retires. Maybe Valentine is special, but he had some injuries. Ppl love WR choices, both with huge hands so we ll see. Dont like Hogan as FA hope that he ll be gone, but i think Amendola is cut after Cyrus the punt returner CB was taken. I like Danny.

D.

No starters or impact players despite having two 2nd round picks.

Chandler Jones netted us a 3rd string QB and a 4th rd WR (our history with WR's isn't good)

Desperately need a RB and many were available but we passed on them.

I just don't understand why we didn't draft a RB. Are we really counting on Blount? Urgh, I foresee more games where we give up running altogether

This was a very unspectacular, but utilitarian draft with an underlying theme of FU to the NFL and its leadership... the Pats don't need a first rounder and despite having two second rounders only need one.

Would give it a very cautious C+, but incomplete is more likely..

The UDFA group is intriguing, but all of these guys are unproven.. might be better able to grade this group in December of 2017.... who is the sleeper here who will make an impact??

D. J Foster, Az., wr/rb,;Steve Scheu, Vanderbilt, TE; C.J. Johnson, Miss, LB; Cre’Von Leblanc, Fl atlantic, CB,;Jonathan Jones, Auburn, CB; "Bear" Wilson, Mississippi State, wide receiver/tight end; Woodrow Hamilton, Miss, DT; and V’Angelo Bentley, Illinois, CB.

A-
They got the 2017 4th back.
They got a CB that is really solid, and now they have maybe the youngest core in the NFL. This tell me that one of the CB is gone next year i hope its Logan.
They got 2 quality OL.
They dont drafted a S...
They got 2 WR that are really interesting...
They got a rotational DT to replace Siliga... So i guess they improved there too ...
My take on Brissett : I guess they hope JG go well in the first 4 games and trade him next year ...
