Belichick has drafted a CB, OT, DT and a backup QB. All were needs. All will on the opening 53 man roster. Every player drafted in the first four rounds by Belichick has made the team.

We have a 4th rounder, 3 sixths and 3 (?) 7th's tomorrow. If our 4th is a RB, I think that we will have used ALL of our picks for needs, turning 4 picks into 5 players.

Some also see other needs, at WR, ILB and DE.

Dunno really. A tackle. I imagine a trade of some picks into next year.

RB, Tackle, WR.

And Scooby Wright. Gotta get Scooby.

RB for sure. I want that to be our next pick. I'm not the biggest Blount supporter, Dion is very injury prone and White is a pass catcher.

RB, WR, ILB, DE. Maybe an additional OT and CB since they can't trade the Comp. picks. Another thing I'd love to see is the Pats trading a pick or 2 tomorrow for a 4th next year. At least we sort of get our 4th back!

I can't get behind the idea that a QB3 was a "need" on day two of the draft. Nope. Not one bit.

I'm fully on board with a QB selection and I expected it. I'm even fine that they have the luxury to select one as high as they did (again), but to call a developmental QB3 selection in the third round a "need" is really stretching the definition. They could've picked up a QB3 in any number of ways, including UDFAs, any one of their (7) late round picks, free agency, etc.

If you want to include it as a "need" for the purpose of this exercise, then I can appreciate that, but again...I think we're pushing the term a bit. Just my opinion.

The Patriots currently have 8 picks remaining. One is in the fourth.

We have FIVE sixth round draft picks tomorrow, three of which they'll be forced to select, and two others with may be traded if there is a market. Then the remaining two close out the last round.

4th round--1
6th round--5
7th round--2

The only needs remaining are the ones we came into the draft with:

1) RB

2) OL (one can argue that it has been addressed on some level, even if it's at the interior position)

There is a second category which includes developmental prospects and better depth/competition. That would include:

1) CB

2) DL

3) WR

4) LB

I think that we could really use a Ridley-ish runner. It doesn't have to be a runner that's dynamic and can do everything. But someone who can hit the hole hard and run with power. That's what I see missing from our offense right now as Blount likes do dance around a bit more and isn't that good at short yardage.

Scooby is a stud. Whoever gets him will love him. Hopefully Bill pulls the trigger on him in the 4th.

OT - Thuney is a risky project as an OT, likely a better fit for the interior. OT is still a major need.

RB - Major need. I love Lewis but he can't be depended on. Blount is a ghost against competent defenses.

DT - For the 3rd or 4th season in a row now, this is a major need. I don't consider it addressed.

WR - Someone aside from Keenan Reynolds.

all hope gone (about the draft) in this forum? no enthusiasm left?
looks like BBs FU had more effect here than at NFL HQ

all i really wanted for 2016 was a big RB - best available - of their choice
i guess it was too much to ask

Whether we need them or not, I expect to see a RB, WR, and TE today. They've worked out late round guys at all 3 positions. Oh. And Keenan Reynolds.

What do we "need" on Day 3?

How about actual talent, instead of the feckin disgrace I witnessed last night?

That would be nice, you know, for a change.

You and I define needs differently. The draft, especially after the first 50 picks, is about the future. Going into the draft, I believe that we had real needs for the future

DT
For me, when we have Brown as our only DT signed for 2017, there is a definite need. There is certainly a chance that neither Knighton nor Branch will be on the 2017 squad.
When we have players like Kuhn and Valano on our depth chart, we have a need.

DE/LB
When we have almost all of our passrushers on their contract years, there is a need on the EDGE and at LB. But, we could simply assume that everyone will be back for 2017: Ninkovich, Sheard, Long, Collins and Hightower.

OL
With regard to OL, I'm fine with a developmental OT who would need to beat out Fleming. However, given that we have Cannon and Waddle, it is not at all clear that belichick sees this as a need. What we are really discussing is a way to save cap room. I'm sure that Scar values Thuney and Cannon much higher than posters here.

CB
For me, it was almost delusional to think that we didn't NEED a corner, with our roster, and with Butler and Ryan as RFA's and UFA's next year.

QB
Reiss certainly understood that had a need at QB. I'm fine with posters disagreeing with belichick's draft strategies with regard to positions. Folks here believe that the 6th round is the place to find a #3 QB who may be the 2018 starter or 2017 backup or 2018 backup. Belichick continues to believe that one of the most important positions on the team is backup QB, and that this position is worth using serious draft capital. And the idea that a QB liked by Charlie Weiss and Bill Parcell is just not worth the pick is rather strange.

RB
Now here Belichick may think that a 6th rounder is fine.

BOTTOM LINE
There were many needs coming into the draft. Four were met. There are more. My top remaining need is a front seven defensive player.

Definitely RB, I think we might also draft a WR, another DT and OT

Our definition of need is different, mostly because you're using it for 2017 and beyond, but it's good to see positions addressed either way.
