Draft Day 2: Official Rounds 2-3 Thread

Listen, I remember tons of posters flipping **** over the Garoppolo pick in round 2 a couple years back. Let's give the kid some time before we pass judgement.

As far as Valentine goes, he sounds like he lacks motivation at times, but his highlight reel is strong. Another case of a guy who could be a hidden gem with the right coaching.
I think the only point is the Pats are built to compete for a SB now. Some of BB's picks have not helped the cause.
If Brady had some help instead of Jimmy G, maybe the Pats beat the broncos last year.
I am pretty confident the QB drafted this year will never help Brady and the Pats win.
I really feel that BB as a drafted has hurt BB the coach. I understand building for the future but when you have one of the greatest QBs of all time the coach needs to take advantage. I will venture an educated guess that Jimmy G will ever even sniff Brady's success. He may be decent but Brady is an all timer.

If the Patriots had traded up to get Darby last year, the CBs would be set, and the Jones pick could have been used elsewhere. That's one that's gonna piss me off for a while.

4th round now so anything is on the table. I think the top value is for Pats is...

Defense

Hassen Ridgeway - DT (maybe? lol... Was he eaten by Andrew Billings?)
Sheldon Day - DT
Ronald Blair - DT (I still think there is room for a pass rushing DT on this team... All 3 can do it okay)

Scooby Wright III - LB
Joshua Perry - LB
Tyler Metakavech - LB
Stephen Weatherly - LB

Offense

Joe Haeg - OT
Klye Murphy - OT
Slater Peirce - OT

Charone Peake - WR
Kenny Lawler - WR
Moritz Boehringer - WR
Braverman Daniel - WR

RB. A bunch are left I won't put them in order but Dixon, Howard, Booker, Williams, Perkins... all good. I'd go Dixon first though.

Those are the spots i think they will look to draft on the last day.

We needed a CB, OL and DT. We got all 3.
We needed also needed a developmental QB. Belichick signed signed one. Everyone here thinks that you do this by drafting a starter in the 6th round. Belichick thinks that quality future starting quarterbacks are harder to find.

We pick in the 4th. There are lots of RB's available. One will be picked there if Belichick agrees that this is a top priority and that the players available are likely to make the team.
The point is I don't think BB is infallible anymore. Each Pats team that hasn't won the SB had been for the same reasons. BB never fixes the problem. The one year he did, the Pats won the super bowl against the Seahawks.
I know that sounds spoiled as the Pats compete every year but they should win more.
Also BB has forgotten more about football than I will ever know but as a fan I notice similarities in each team that loses: can't run the ball, can't pass block, stink on third downs, no big play fast WR.
I don't see how drafting a QB and a bad DT help with any of that.

And then almost every year we get to the AFCCG.

I skew everything.

Sincerely,

i

This is why I never start whining or throwing a hissy fit on draft day. We have Belichick and Brady. We're going to be fine, we're going to be in the playoffs. We'll probably be in the championship game, we might even end up in the Super Bowl.

I myself wasn't much of a fan of our last two picks tonight but I think there is a wee bit of an overreaction.

We have a **** ton of picks this year. We are probably going to hit on a few and miss on several. But JFC people need to cool down.
I agree the first two picks weren't bad, but I want the Pats to win the Super Bowl and the last two picks tonight (if you factor in opportunity cost) moved the pats further away from a title next year.

how did they move them further away? Might not have moved them closer, but they hardly detract from the team.

Kevin O'Connell moved the New England Patriot closer to the Super Bowl in 2008?

Yeah, but then you think about the guys they could have had that most people would have picked (ant not even in hindsight) and you add a couple more Super Bowls onto our total.

And if the Pats drafted what some other team would have picked at #199 in 2000 they have no SB right now.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about 2016. Didn't realise I time warped back to '08.

as I said, I don't think the Brissett/Valentine picks help us much in '16, but they haven't detracted from the team.

No Goodell is there...
Someone to sack Lynch ;)
well hopefully he'll have to wait a year to sack lynch. I'm hoping the guy sits for 1-2 years cause he's so raw. If butt fumble is our QB for the year... Then I hope Sanchez can start all year to give lynch time to learn.

The New England Patriots staff fail to learn from past mistakes, Kevin O'Connell and Ron Brace.

Sometimes I feel like Belichick has Caserio line up a bunch of names on a dart board, and while blindfolded, he tosses a few darts to makes these picks...........kidding obviously.

I honestly think Belichick gets more excited to pluck through the Undrafted Free Agent pool than he does for the draft.

He literally may be the best UDFA talent evaluator out there.

How much credit can we really give him for UDFAs though? We already know he's not afraid to take guys significantly higher than their pre-draft grade. So if he sees something so great in a UDFA, why not actually draft him?

He would be dumb to re-sign here or know something the rest of us don't. Still I don't think that Brissett is any good. He couldn't beat out Driskell at UF and bailed and Driskell was one of the worst college QB's I have watched.
Drew Henson says hi.

We hope Sanchez can start all year too :p

It'll be interesting to see how Lynch works out. Has a lot to learn pro-game wise, but the upside is certainly there.

Did anyone pick that up in the video of the "war room". A couple of tables, essential personnel only vs what you see on TV from most other teams. Family members, auditoriums full of god knows who.

Chess vs checkers.

And who thought on draft day Malcom Butler would turn into a player that basically made Darrelle Revis an afterthought?

Oh wait. That wasn't even draft day. How about we get these guys that were drafted, and drafted high, on the field and see what they can or cannot do. They may not all be picks WE like, but they like them so I trust they see something.
