Draft Day 2: Official Rounds 2-3 Thread

I won't rest until Bill drafts a blocking fullback who specializes in special teams. But he must be from Navy or Rutgers only.

I actually like Chris Swain the Navy FB.

In case anyone cares about actual facts,

Jeff Driskel came to UF as the top ranked quarterback in the nation in the 2011 national recruiting class and new UF coach/failure Will Muschamp HANDED HIM THE JOB before he even played a snap. Indeed Driskel proved to be awful, but there was no "beating out" of Brissett. Just a dumb coach picking "his guy".

THAT is when Brissett transferred, joining the UF assistant coach who had recruited him.

I'm not saying it was a great or even good pick for in the 3rd round, just that some of the posts about his transfer have been fact-deprived.

Too much overthinking ...

Every position needs competition ... including QB ... it's as simple as that.
It really is more complicated. We have carried 2 QB's for awhile. Now, we'll carry 3.

There is no chance they don't bring in a vet to compete in camp.
Compete for what? The opportunity to get cut 4 weeks into the season after not playing?

Yeah, but then you think about the guys they could have had that most people would have picked (ant not even in hindsight) and you add a couple more Super Bowls onto our total.

So all the vets are going to say "no I may get cut a month in so why bother?'

In NE? Would have to disagree there....typo?

I think they all stay on the roster - TB/JG for the full season, Bissett can sit on the PS even if he's active for the first 4 games (6 is the max now) as the backup, so they don't have to keep him on the 53-man. Either way JG is a goner - his quality of play will just dictate what they can get for him, and even then we're probably talking 2nd instead of 3rd, or 2 picks instead of 1.

I don't see them signing a veteran backup, mainly because it would cost real money and that doesn't make sense for a 4-week backup. Why would Hoyer (for example) sign a deal here knowing he's going to get cut in October?
I don't see why, if JG plays well in the first four games, he wouldn't bring a pretty good price. Teams just got done paying stupidhigh prices for those stiffs in this years draft.

Lyoko lifted my spirits a bit by saying that they'll make picks tomorrow where we say "if we swap valentine in the third for Xbox in the 6th, the draft doesn't look so bad." This is true as it happens every year.

Loyko doesn't have sources. I'm not sure why he's saying this - other than to get followers or appear "connected".

And we were clearly going to carry three for at least the first 4 games this year.

Sometimes I feel like Belichick has Caserio line up a bunch of names on a dart board, and while blindfolded, he tosses a few darts to makes these picks...........kidding obviously.

I honestly think Belichick gets more excited to pluck through the Undrafted Free Agent pool than he does for the draft.

He literally may be the best UDFA talent evaluator out there.

If Brady wasn't suspended I wouldn't really mind this draft. But that colors everything, I was already really on edge and I wanted to feel at least a little bit better tonight, not worse.

We don't have Brady for a 1/4 of the season. And I don't particularly want proven garbage on deck in case something happens to Grop. I don't particularly like Brisket as the QB but I'm not raging against going for a QB. And let's face it Garropolo is not staying in NE unless Brady decides to retire any time soon.

I like the Brissett pick. the Valentine pick on the other hand. Looks like a limited Nose that can take on double teams, but might be the most unathletic prospect I've ever watched. Still, I'm fine with the first three picks, let's see what our 100 picks will be like tomorrow. after Valentine, the only way is up in terms of levels of disappointment.

Moritz Boehringer is the guy I want, I don't really have any opinion on any others. RB for me is not a need, we have Gaffney.. believe!. RB is supposedly really strong in next years draft and the draft IMO is showing that guys are willing to draft until day 3.

Gaffney was cut.

Agreed. I don't get it, unless they're really high on Brissett being able to play or plan to trade Jimmy. To me, the sane choice at QB would be bringing in a veteran to back up Grop the first four games and then waiving him when Brady returns. Now, this team appears locked in with QBs at three roster spots
