Why? They did it with Gronkowski and got the best TE in the history of the league. If Jacks knee clears their medical I would be all for it. Easely's problem isn't the knee it's Easely. If he had his head on straight and busted his ASS he would still be here. I don't believe they are going to be able to re-sign Collins and will have to tag him to keep him so Jack would give them the best LB corps in football and replace Collins in a couple of years?

Even though I think Gronk is a Freak of nature and more the exception than the rule, my point is not this exception/rule thing.

The lack of a 1st round pick this year, no 4th next year (I don't underestimate that because the Pats has been getting good value in the 4th round), a lot of 1 year deals, Chandler Jones gone, the (maybe) impossibility of signing all of Hightower, Collins, Butler and even Logan Ryan, Edelman and Amendola hitting the 30 wall plus Edelman foot, I think the picture is not pretty bright for the next couple seasons and I don't think BB will stay around a lot more for another 2-3 year rebuild. BB is always worried about fielding the best possible team for that given season but for me this team was built to hit their prime performance exactly now, these last couple years and this 2016 season. We already won the SB in 2014 and was this close in 2015. We better win again this year against all odds because I'm not so optimistic for 2017. As long as Brady is healthy we always have a shot but there will be a drop off next season IMO.

This is my reasoning, I think there are times that is worth taking a gamble but this time I think the Pats needs to play safe and get players like for example Ridley that while was not a home run hitter was solid and gave good contribution during his 4 years here.

Clayton Fejedelem from Illinois. Projected 7th round pick, but he played lacrosse in high school and that moves him up 5 rounds.

No, that moves him up three rounds. Being an unheard of safety from Illinois moves him up the other two.

You're going to be right on this you know that?

No, I thought it was a 4th rounder from this year taken away. I guess not

OK. Even if you used this year's 4th, that and one of their 2nds might only move them up 5-6 spots in the second round. Using the draft value chart, the most even trade to move up high in the second round would be both of the Patriots second rounds picks for a high second and maybe a 5th or 6th rounder (or a 7th if you somehow were able to get all the way to the top of round 2).

You are far more pessimistic about the Patriots than I am. It's true they have a lot of work to do but many of these contracts won't be hard to get done, and they have leverage on the tougher ones. Hightower is the key imo, if they get him done then they can offer Collins a similar deal, if he rejects it then they can tag him and have both of them through 2017. They have even more leverage with Butler, who will be restricted after 2016 and won't become unrestricted until after 2017, at which point they can tag him, so he won't actually hit the market until after 2018. They should offer him 32 for 4 with 20 guaranteed, and he would be wise to take it as he will be 29 when he finally becomes free after 2018.

Although they have a significant number of free agents after 2016 many of them they can keep if they want. Guys like Ninkovich, Solder, Branch etc...aren't really looking to move and will be amenable to extensions. They will also have huge cap room for the first time ever. Belichick is used to, operating on very limited funds for free agency, 15 million in cap space is usually a large amount for them, next year it will be around 70 million and I can't even imagine what Belichick could do with that.

Despite having their first stolen from them they have 11 picks this year and if Garrapolo plays well could have two firsts next year. Belichick will be able to offset potential free agent losses with these picks and still have big money and free agency tho make up for what cannot be filled through signing their own.

As far as this draft goes I would go to 32 for Jack if Cleveland agrees and his medical checks out, he's a great young player and they would end up with top first talent despite losing the pick. FU ROGER- TAKE THAT AHOLE.

They don't have a 4th this year.

So who is going to our annual 2nd round special teams ace?

They've got new analytics guys in their front office - Paul DePodesta who used to work for Billy Beane with the Oakland Athletics, and was GM of the Dodgers for a period. Probably thinks the best chance of getting 5 good players is by having 17 draft picks.
Yeah I know, I've been watching their moves and stuff since he was brought in and they are definitely being very shrewd - very unlike the typical Browns.

Just seems like 17+ draft picks would be too much, but maybe not if you're a rebuilding team. I guess it helps to "rebuild through the draft" if you have a ton of picks. Their trade out of #2 was a great move.

I like Jack a metric ton as a player but I'm really afraid his medical is worse than reported. In terms of talent, he's the best player in the draft. There's no reason a team like Seattle would have passed on him if that wasn't the case. My suspicion is he will fall even farther than expected. The Patriots may have a chance at him. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to roll the dice and, as I mentioned, I think he's the best player in the entire draft.

My top 10 right now, minus Jack:
1) Jarran Reed
2) Mackensie Alexander
3) Emmanuel Ogbah
4) Kevin Dodd
5) Reggie Ragland
6) A'Shawn Robinson
7) Xavien Howard
8) Jason Spriggs
9) Jonathan Bullard
10) Su'a Cravens

You'll notice it's mostly defensive linemen.

Their primary needs:

#1) TE
#2) QB
#3) Kicker

;)

We were 2 goddamn Owen Daniels TD's away from having a shot at repeating

Draft Jack and solve the whole covering tight ends in big games problem

I don't think jack or smith were ever linked to the pats in terms of an interview, workout or visit. Would they take a chance on a guy they've never met?

Ya let's just forget about that missed extra point and not deciding to go for it instead of take a FG with 5 minutes left decision.

Also do me a favor and go look at Travs Kelce's numbers from the divisional game the week before..

Isn't that collins job?
Collins is a great athlete but he's struggled when forced to cover whit his back to the ball. He's been beat in some big spots AFCCG, SB against Marshawn twice with one completed on the final drive. Jack compliments what we have better than Rangland who I also like.

You get a rookie contract out of him and its a win.
