When Brady Retires, are you done?

I don't have to commit to any fan base....especially not the way these rats are talking to jump ship....Rick Pitino was right to call out the fellowship of the miserable......that's what a substantial portion of this bunch is....in the end, they will have wound up being happier if the Pats never won.

I'll get off the Schneid ... You'll see Supporter in my avatar soon enough....I'll cancel out one if these ship jumpers

I'm a diehard and the way the league is run by Goodell and the lack of fight from Kraft has soured my enthusiasim (I never thought that could happen). For the first time i am feeling apathetic about the draft. I am taking a stand of never purchasing gear from the NFL. I probably won't go to many games and if i do i'll be sneaking food, drinks in as best as i can. I have never been this frustrated with the NFL.

There are a lot of regulars who are still silent which speaks volumes to the apathy

Or, like me, they just want to watch football and are tired of the soap opera

There are plenty of players beyond Brady on this team that I admire

Quitting in this team is lame.....this too shall pass and when football comes in this season, it will be good football

I bought my TB12 jersey today....a JE11 as well as a gronk jersey will be forthcoming

I've followed the NFL since I watched the 1960 Eagles team for my first NFL game. I've been a Pats fan since I watched the 1974 Season opener.

But after this?

I'm done the day Brady retires. I'll always be interested , as a curiosity , in the NFL, but my allegiance to The New England Patriots ? Over and done. If Bob Kraft couldn't "stand by his man," when it could have made a difference , why in hell should I stand by him?

There is a difference between Patriot fans (or fans of a team), and fans of winning or fans of BB and TB.

Anyone who has lived in NE pre Parcells and BB/TB have recognized this, it comes ad no shock. I know plenty of Patriot "fans" that were Cowboys, Steelers, even Lions fans before 1996 and especially before 2001 and they'll return to not being Pats fans post this era. Not saying this thread is or isnt a direct representation of these fans, but it is what it is.

Well, if this forum will be empty in some years i want dikembe´s spot as the foreigner comedian.

I'm sure that that lady customer service rep in New Delhi India wrote all of your complaints down!

Actually, I spoke with a rather pleasant fellow in the states. African-American from the sound of his voice. DirecTV only uses an off-shore call center after normal business hours. Everythingelse is US employees here in the states.

To answer the question posed by the thread title, I honestly don't know.

I have been a Patriots fan for a long time- over 30 years.

I had been an NFL fan for a long time too, but that is gone. By being an NFL fan, I mean I'd watch it whenever, whomever, Sunday, Sunday night, Monday night , Thursday nght, draft, combine... I was an addict.

Starting last year, though, I was no longer an NFL fan, soley due to Roger $hitdell. If it wasn't a Patriots game, I hardly ever watched or cared even a little.

I was a Patriots fan before Brady, before Belichick, before Kraft, before they were anything approaching respectable with regard to success.

I don't think my Pats fandom will go away, but then again I didn't expect my NFL fandom to go away either.

So I just don't know.

It doesn't bother you though that the Krafts keep saying how wonderful Roger is? It's a damn shame BB doesn't own the team too. It'd be nice to have an owner that won't play nicely with the billionaires club.

Yep, it bothers me because Goodell is a sack of ****. But I think (hope) Bob is just playing the game.

I believe him when he says that he didn't appeal hoping that they'd go easy on Brady. He held a press conference to say he was wrong to trust the league which is very strong language from an owner.

Would it be cathartic if he called out Goodell and rubbed his balls on Goodell's lips? Yeap. But given that this whole thing was clearly a put up job by jealous owners I'd rather Bob keep playing the game to try to keep us from being even more on the outside.

Well the game hasn't seem to have helped. Bob is still a shmuck. He doesn't have to call Goodell out in public but, he can at least stop hugging him and going on and on about how great he is. Perhaps he could tell us specifically what Goodell has done that is so great. The owners are such cheap bastards but, they're somehow okay with paying Goodell 44 mill a year. Maybe they wouldn't have to steal 100 mill from the players if they weren't paying that moron so much money.

When Jonathan Kraft's son becomes the owner ... I should be done by then.

Once TB and BB are gone the Pats will be far less enjoyable to watch than they are now.

Are we EVER likely to see a HC/QB combo comparable to them in our lifetime?

We've seen the best, and we saw the best FAIRLY trounce the competion, but now the NFL* is putting out a watered-down product that you cannot be sure is even a real competition.

Those of you who say they will keep watching may change your minds when you see the post-TB/BB Patriots.

The best doesn't always equate to the most fun or fulfilling.

Watching the Yankees kill it for years was damn fun. But watching the Jets as underdogs, after years of losing and struggles, make the Championship games (not to mention beating the Pats in NE) was much better than watching the Yanks.

To each their own I suppose. I have friends who will only pay attention to "their teams" when they're winning (aka giant fans) and it works for them.

I think many could be missing the greatest thing about sports. It's not always winning (though I'd happily take that right about now). It's experiencing the **** times and hopefully occasionally breaking out and surpassing expectations.

Maybe I'm just too much of an underdog fan (hence the Jets) but I'm stuck with it.

I think many of the long-time Pat fans may understand what I'm trying to say.

Now for you young guys who've only known winning and do decide to stick around during the tough times... lol, it's gonna SUCK for a while. Trust me. But once they win again, it'll be that much sweeter.

Getting there. I noticed I had less interest this last season and I can see losing interest when TB12 is gone. Time will tell.

I'd like to say that I'd be done, but I know I'll keep watching the Pats. I don't think I'll watch many other NFL games though. I usually watch a ton of NFL games, but I only watched a few non Patriots games last year because of this b.s. and the few I watched was only to not be anti-social. I imagine I'll do the same for the foreseeable future.

This is why I get my football jones fixed with Alabama and the SEC games. I've been a fan of the Crimson Tide as long as I've been a Pats fan and those Saturday college games help keep my football interest fed while calming me down about all the jackwagon crapweasel stuff that Goodell has laid on New England.

I've been able to deal with things a lot better since DirecTV got the SEC channel. :)

Interesting because I became a Crimson Tide fan this past year while in Afghanistan. Almost everyone in my unit was from Alabama, so we watched almost every game and I came to really like Nick Saban and the way he runs his program. There are flashes of the BB way. We see it with guys like Dont'a Hightower ("I'm in the ring business"). It's possible I may move toward the SEC more myself.

I'm just really hurt by all of this.

I'm a huge football fan and I've always loved the NFL but I'm starting to question my love for the professional game now.

I want to watch football and the brand has exploded over the last fifteen years or so due to problems in other sports and because they promoted football, football players and coaches.

Over the last three years there has been a big jump in the amount of politics and soap opera antics from the league and it's put me off.

I've already decided that I'm not watching the first round of the draft this year. That's the first time I'll have missed that since I can't remember.

Now I'm considering not watching the NFL season until Brady is reinstated, that is if he comes back. Tom Brady seems to be a man of principle and belief and not the money lover that most NFL players become. He might well decided to ride off into the sunset rather than go through a suspension. I wouldn't blame him if he did.

There is one thing and I'm not certain about it but is there still some stuff to be sorted out by Berman? I remember reading that Vincent being given the powers to punish Brady had violated the CBA in the eyes of the arbitrator.

Probably, yeah. I'm not kind of done already. I couldn't even bother to watch the super bowl last season. There's several reasons. For one I find it hard to watch knowing how concussions can affect players heavily later in their life. And for how the NFL front office has treated Brady and the Pats. It's obvious that when Goodell and his henchmen want to bring someone down, they will do it no matter what science or reality says. It's hard to find enjoyment watching the NFL knowing these two things.

I still don't understand. If you are supporting the team because of one player, you are not a fan of the team. It's like that weirdo Tim Tebow fan who used to come around here. I think you are a real fan of the team, so I'm still confused. Am I missing something?

C'mon man. I can't believe you don't understand his position.

Do like this ****? It is complete and utter Bull ****.

I watch football because I want a pleasant distraction from my daily grind. Watching an innocent guy get railroaded by a league of rich ****ing pricks is not a "pleasant" distraction.

With the Goodell gong show, I'm thinking no Brady and i might be done (but who knows). Anyone else feeling this way?
Curious how old you might be. A lot of us have been Pats fans since long before The Hooded One arrived in New England. It will be fun to see what comes next. I hope it is easier to get tickets when the fair weather fans walk away.
