When Brady Retires, are you done?

It's not fair-weather, it's the fact that we are sick and tired of supporting a league that is destroying the sport we love, just for the almighty dollar. Maybe there will be a new generation of owners/leadership that will turn the league around, but right now I can't support the owners. Things change. It's not an easy choice either. I'm sure I'll want to watch the Patriots after BB and TB12 retire, but I just can't support the league, even in adding to the viewership by tuning-in. I boycott products and companies I dislike and the NFL is just about there...

So....why aren't you done now?

I should point out that I told DirecTV to NOT renew my NFL Sunday Ticket subscription this year, and I cited the court decision against Brady as the grounds for it. I told them that I believe the NFL is a damaged brand and that I have absolutely no interest in watching any games other than Patriots games from now on.

I bet the customer service agent, on the other end of the phone line, live from a call center in India, has passed on your complaint directly to the Roger!

Hey, I don't blame you, though. Money is the only thing that Roger and (Kraft) listen to.

I wish there was a way we could all unite to send a message that is unmistakable. Unfortunately, most of us have a hopeless addiction to this game, as crooked as it is being run.

I'm a Patriots fan and always will be, for better or worse.

If I ditched my team every time the league or ownership thoroughly pissed me off or let me down I'd have ditched the soccer team I support two decades ago. But I can't help loving what I love.

I still don't understand. If you are supporting the team because of one player, you are not a fan of the team. It's like that weirdo Tim Tebow fan who used to come around here. I think you are a real fan of the team, so I'm still confused. Am I missing something?

I have no idea. But my interest in football in general has declined since this debacle started. I love the Pats, Brady, Belichick, Gronk, Edelman, etc, but I find it easier to put distance between myself and anything not exclusively Pats related.

It's a very similar effect to the one the 1994 baseball strike had on me.

Think this forum should be renamed Bradyfans.com judging by the responses in this thread.

Many of us suffered through the sh.tty years and we have now had the privilege of watching an athlete come to town, work his ass off, and deliver the greatest run of winning in NFL history, all the while doing so with nothing but class and humility. Brady is unlike any other athlete I have seen in this regard and every Patriot fan owes him their complete appreciation and support. These assholes have done everything in their power to try and destroy his reputation by lying and crying and I have lost all respect for the NFL as a sports league and at this point only care about the Patriots. Whether I remain a football fan after Brady and Belichick is unknown to me at this point as my interest in the league and game has been diminishing gradually as they have turned it into a fantasy enterprise, and the emergence (no offense manx) of the new faux metrics and outfits like Pro Football Focus just grind it down even more. We will see what happens but the gutter scum Jets run NFL league office is certainly. doing everything on earth to kill my interest.

you can watch without supporting the league

the league had not gotten a dime out of me since I bailed on my season tickets 11 years ago......the only Pats garb I have is a Ty Warren #92 jersey bought for 7.00 at Marshall's after he gave up the number to Ted Washington

I will always watch the Pats as long as they're the local team.......I have no other valid excuse to drink in the middle of the day and eat excessive amounts of meat......my wife would surely put me to work or make me go shopping with her

Besides, this teams seen worse and it didn't stop me

the ongoing saga is tiring and affects perspective......once its over and done with, it won't be as annoying

So....why aren't you done now?

Idealistic me says I should be, but I'm too attached to BB, Brady, and this team to just walk away now. That's what will make it tough once they do retire, because the rest of the team will still be there and I'd want to keep supporting them.

this "follow the team until Brady Belichick retire" thing is confounding. Can anyone explain the reasoning? It sounds fair-weather.

He's the hero to a lot of people. Thing is, the game has changed drastically and for the worse since Brady came into the league. People will see their hero out before they dip. That said, IMO, I don't think half the people that are saying they're gone after Brady goes will actually follow through with it. Especially if he wins another Lombardi.

Personally? I've already lost a lot of interest. I said last year and I'm feeling the same way this year that I'm looking forward to college ball more than the NFL. I was over the Denver loss in less than a day and this news about Brady hasn't even ruined my day. Whether I even make it to the day Brady retires before I throw in the towel on this league altogether is anybody's guess.

I will never stop being a Pats fan. Never. The best way to stick it to the league after Brady retires is to win it all again with another qb, be it Garoppolo or whomever. I froze my arse off on those metal benches when they were bottom feeders, listened to games on the radio when they were blacked out, always stuck by them and always will.

This is why I get my football jones fixed with Alabama and the SEC games. I've been a fan of the Crimson Tide as long as I've been a Pats fan and those Saturday college games help keep my football interest fed while calming me down about all the jackwagon crapweasel stuff that Goodell has laid on New England.

I've been able to deal with things a lot better since DirecTV got the SEC channel. :)

Thanks Satch. Honest answer.

I might be done before he retires. I plan on not watching the first four games if he is suspended. I am curious to find out if I am going to miss watching football on Sunday afternoons or will find something better to do with my time.

what difference does it make?
None
this isnt a fair weather fan situation.
Yes it is
far from it. why continue to support something that is corrupt and wrong.
because it beats all other sunday options in the fall
would anybody keep buying a car from GM if they kept putting out vehicles that constantly breakdown?
the fact GM is still around..........yes, lots of people did and do

You're not curious at all to see how Garoppolo looks? I know I am.
