Andrew Luck: 'I still have some work to do'

On a day he admitted the disastrous 2015 season taxed him “mentally, physically and emotionally,” dismissed his looming nine-figure contract extension as something he’s “not spending too much time worrying about” and proclaimed his intention to refine his skill set “from the ground up,” the Indianapolis Colts’ franchise quarterback dropped one slice of information that stood out from the rest.

No, Andrew Luck said, he’s still not quite back to 100 percent.

It’s been 162 days since that punishing hit he absorbed from Broncos linebacker Danny Trevathan and lineman Vance Walker lacerated his kidney and ended the most trying of his four NFL seasons. You remember: Initially, the Colts said Luck would be out 2-6 weeks.

Only he never returned. And the season sunk.

Sounds like it has more to do with his shoulder injury than it does with his kidney, but it's still interesting nonetheless. He is looking at getting a massive deal from Indy but, if they don't put an OL in front of him, Luck isn't going to be alive to see the end of that deal. Luckily he has a pill addict of an owner to help him with alleviating that shoulder injury.

As much as I loathe the Colts organization, I like Luck. I hope he isn't injured to the point where it will affect his career. It does seems a bit worriessome, no?

In a sense, the situation reminds me of Bledsoe's when he was here. Surprised he lasted as long as he did with such a porous OL protecting him. Rather, I should say "between him and the opponent's players" because they didn't do a whole lot of protection.

It's so odd with them. I can't remember a team where all my hate had to do with the ownership, management, and the fans, and nothing to do with the coaches and players.

I hope he re-signs with Indy. I don't want him going to Denver in 2017. Mark Sanchez is just a place holder in 2016 for their next QB. Elway is keeping his eye on him, believe me.

There's no way he's getting out of Indy. He's on his 5th year option and Irsay can just keep tagging him after that to keep him away from another team. That won't happen, though, and they'll get a long term deal worked out.

What is interesting is that Drew wasn't sacked a ton his first few seasons. Once Pom-Pom came in all hell broke loose and Drew started getting into bad habits and hanging onto the ball too long.

Huge news with Hasselbeck retired. Maybe they can try to get him back? Anytime your starting QB retires and the successor isn't ready is always a difficult position to be in. I don't see Luck as another Rodgers.

Praying for him to be healthy.

So very true. It is quite the thing. Horrible fans, addict owner (I have sympathy for addicts, just not one like him) and a moron for a GM. Also a bad person. It's an odd trifecta.

I'm not sure that Drew Bledsoe's career ever recovered from the physical pounding he took when Ernie Zampese hung him out to dry.

I wasn't too happy with his remarks about feeling "salty" about the deflategate AFCCG but I don't wish injury on any NFL player...ok, maybe Bernard Pollard or at the time Jack Tatum.

If Luck never reaches his potential because of whatever reason that means that the 2012 QB draft, toted as the best of all time, becomes a complete bust.

Andrew Luck
Russell Wilson
Kirk Cousins
Ryan Tannehill
Brock Osweiller

5 starting QBs this coming year plus Nick Foles. Far from complete bust.

I'm pretty sure Hasselbeck retired so he wouldn't have to play behind that ****ty OL. He was looking for a nice backup veteran QB gig where he could mentor and hang out and collect a few million dollars, not get the crap beaten out of him every week.

I like Luck because the Patriots could put out 3rd stringers on D and he still wouldn't be able to read the formation. :p

Throw in coaching staff too with eligible/illelible players. Guess they were sick that day coaching 101.

Right- Larry Keenan was OC in 1997.
