Patriots Release Dominique Easley

Yeah, I echo your sentiments. I only brought up the 3-3-5 because it has been going around social media a bit in the wake of Easley's release.

I know Hill and Loyko both speculated about it but they're both just fans without any special knowledge who are reading too much into this.

Moreover, I don't think the release of Easley would make much of a difference; he certainly fits better in a 3-4 than a player like Long does. Given the draft and free agency resources invested in players much better suited to the 4-3 (Flowers, Grissom, Sheard, Long) and the effectiveness of Hightower, Nink, and Collins in a 4-man front, I think it's a long shot that they're moving to a 3-4 or 3-3-5.

I guess now know why Chris Jones hasn't been cut.

Yeah, the personnel on the defense is definitely more suited for a 4-3. Therefore, I would think the team addresses the needs in the draft with this in mind on the defensive front.

All in all, the loss of Easley is not profound, as he only was playing a little over a quarter of snaps. His efficiency was excellent, but this is something the team thinks it can replace.

2014 Patriots Draft Picks | NEPatriotsDraft.com - 2014 NFL Draft

1st Round – Dominique Easley (DL Florida) – 29th Pick
2nd Round – Jimmy Garoppolo (QB, Eastern Illinois) 62nd Pick
4th Round – Bryan Stork (OL, Florida State) – 105th Pick
4th Round – James White (RB, Wisconsin) – 130th Pick
4th Round – Cameron Fleming (OT, Stanford) – 140th Pick
6th Round – Jon Halapio (G, Florida) – 179th Pick
6th Round – Zach Moore (DE, Concoria) – 198th Pick
6th Round – Jemea Thomas (DB, Georgia Tech) – 206th Pick
7th Round – Jeremy Gallon (WR, Michigan) – 244th Pick

If Andrews beats out Stork for the starting C job, there is a chance we won't have one player from the 2014 draft make any impact for us next year. Fleming probably won't make the team, Jimmy G will be the backup QB, and White will be competing for the last RB spot.

Jimmy G needs to either become a franchise QB or get us a 2nd round pick in return to salvage the draft. Ironically we found one of the best UDFAs of all time in this class too.

Yeah, he came back, crashed his car, fled the scene, and got cut. Crazy thing is, he's been the best outcome of any of our UF draft picks. It's pretty much him, Chad Jackson, Jermaine Cunningham, Easley, and Hernandez.

Cunningham and Jackson almost come out of that looking good because they were just standard not-very-good football players. Compared to a serial killer and the the biggest bust of the Belichick era, even that doesn't seem so bad.
That's right, now I remember. My memory was failing me. Geez. And to think he was our best Florida guy...

If cutting a first round pick after his second year doesn't = bust, then I dunno what does. There really shouldn't be any kind of debate here.

If I recall correctly, there wasn't a whole lot of enthusiasm for the pick. Some liked it, some didn't, seemed most thought it was a more wait and see what happens kind of pick. I nicknamed him Easely Hurt, so I wasn't a huge fan. He just never turned into a player worthy of a first round pick. He had talent but the negatives out weighed the positives. It was a calculated gamble that failed. Bill hits on those more then he misses but this one was a bust.

And yet, a few people are suing the NFL over draft picks LOL

Goes to show that the draft is a pure crap shoot and that Bill is amazing at finding gold in the UDFA pile.

Another tidbit from Reiss.

Meanwhile, this offseason, Easley spent some time in Germany and one person close to him relayed that he was experimenting with different rehabilitation options for his knee. Perhaps that was part of the reason Tom E. Curran of Comcast SportsNet tweeted that “philosophical differences on following injury programs” was part of the team’s thinking in releasing Easley.

Who is not on board with the program (per the theory)?
I heard the theory being floated by Tom E. Curran on WEEI this afternoon, but of course he didn't offer up any names that might need to receive such a message.

I actually liked Ealy too but I was also very high on Easley. The latter of which I was very wrong about too.
To be fair, he could play, and it was a swing for the fences that blew up because of the injury issues and now it appears some bad choices too.

I am still waiting on dobson. Never liked the selection of easley because of his injuries.

There was healthy debate on him in the draft forum at the time. We all thought he was a first round talent but it was split on taking a first round chance on him. I did not want to take a chance that high on him. Unlike other drafts where you could say well there really wasn't anybody right after player X that draft was littered with players I loved and who have done very well.

Check out the rest of the first round and then the second round.
Some of those names available will make you cry

I agree. Florida. Florida State is fine, but stay away from Florida.

I'm highly disappointed. I had high hopes for him. Watch the Jets pick him up and wreak havoc. They're better be a damn good reason to release him. Damn good.
Or what? You'll stamp your feet and call for BB's head? What is your exact plan to extract your pound of flesh? We're all shaking in anticipation.

I seem to remember nothing but enthusiasm. We knew he was going to red shirt his rookie year, but common opinion was that he'd be a top ten pick in the draft, if not for the injury concerns. We also heard how the Seahawks had him on their board, and the rumours about their war room becoming "deflated" after our selection. I don't remember seeing many people argue that it was a bad pick.

But yeah, it's safe to say he's a bust at this point.
