Stupid idea I know won't work but I missing what is wrong with it.

I mean besides being "THAT" team. :)

The draft goes to 28. The Patriots tweet out who they would have picked. (Say John Random) The next two picks are Some Guy and The Other Guy. A few hours after the draft the Patriots tweet apologies for hurting John Random's draft stock because some teams may shy away from him for fear he will be upset at having "lost" money since he "dropped" from 28, so they'll pay him like a 28th draft pick if he becomes an undrafted FA.

There has to be a reason that doesn't work. It is probably obvious and when I read it I'll say, "Of course!"

I mean besides being hated so much teams ignore basic physics to screw you and stuff. Yeah, it'd be a jerk move. Maybe we'd lose another draft pick for it and do this "accident" again several times. :)

Seriously though is their like a pay scale for UDFAs or something I'm forgetting?

As a player if some team obviously used me as a pawn in some weird game I'd be livid.

Also I'd believe that someone other than Ted Cruz is the Zodiac before I believed that the Pats would ever truly reveal who they would have picked.

Either way welcome to my ignore list.

I'm surprised the NFLPA (or player agents) hasn't made some noise over this issue. That's one less large 1st round contract going around

I'm sure the league will be too happy to nail the Patriots for tampering in this kind of scenario- and they won't be wrong either.

It would be illegal
because Goodell says it is
because Goodell thinks he can decide anything
because he's a fool

but we'd get punished anyway
and Krafty would cave "for the 32"

I'd much rather them leak that they're trying to trade up to the number 1 pick and have that be the talk of the draft. If getting there wouldn't be impossibly prohibitive, it'd be hysterical to have Goodell announce the first pick in the draft has been forfeited and act like it's honest, then give an additional headache to the other teams in the top 10 as they have to argue that their pick is not an additional slot higher. Many of the owners of those teams are the ones that were the antagonists with framegate. Yeah, I'm tired. :)

Thanks.
If asking a question gets me ignored by you, then I obviously am not interested in what your highness was selling.
Thanks for outing yourself as a self-important "person."

BTW, Strawman much? I specifically said there was something wrong with it, not that the Patriots will do it. How the heck Ted Cruz got into it I can't even guess.

Oh, if we are talking politics now vote Libertarian. :)

I'm beginning to think Bob Kraft's nickname should be Deja vu.

Thanks.

Geez, no pleasing some of you guys. I've been trying for years to get on fnord's ignore list but he says I'm too heavy-handed.......or was it ham-fisted?

If we're looking to screw with Fraudell and the crybabies among the owners, I like the idea of the Pats trading up to the top pick in round 2.

After all these years of not using a 1st round pick on offensive players, the Pats have traded for former 1st rounders this year. Is that a coincidence?

Somewhere in the bowels of NFL Headquarters Goodell goes to his safe room and engages in a healthy bout of primal screaming...

Fnord may have said ham fisted but definitely not ham-fisted.

I fail to see any type of logic in this idea.

First of all, no other team is going to care who the Patriots would have picked enough to monitor their tweets. I think they'll have better things to do at the time. If anything, another team who wanted the same guy would just be glad that the Patriots didn't have the pick to take him. John Random has always been on his own. Nobody is going to be scared to take him just because the Patriots would have done it sooner...not in any way, shape, or form. To think that this first-round talent would somehow become undrafted just because the Patriots WOULD HAVE taken him at 28 is a ridiculous notion. Every team is out to rob the same train, if you will.

The rest of the scheme is...well, you got it right in the thread title.

Besides all that, the Patriots would be flat out dumb to tip off the rest of the league as to the type of player they are targeting in the draft. This could negatively affect who they are able to get with the picks they actually DO have.

Even if they DID make this tweet, I doubt other teams would even believe said tweet. Why? Because it would make zero sense to do. I'd think somebody hacked into their account or something.

Now is the time to say "Of Course!"

If I were the agent representing pick #33, I'd argue they he deserves the slotting, salary and advantages of pick #32 since he was the 32nd player taken.....

Thanks.

At least you got a "welcome to the list" message. I was put on without any notice or ceremony. It was like I was stood up at the prom or something.

Nice try but we both know being on my ignore list is killing you.
