Clearly, we need help at all these positions.

?

Not sure what you are saying here but if this is your proposed top four positions to be drafted, I think you'll be disappointed.

Sorry for the typo. I was referring to Draftek's most recent consensus draft.

Thanks, makes sense now.

Definitely expect at OT in the first 4, though. likely over ILB on their list. DE is tough, depends what they think of Flowers/Grissom and whether they expect to get Sheard signed long term. DT also weird, we're deep for now but Branch/Knighton UFA after the year.

I'm expecting, in some order, CB, OT, RB, Trade Down.

I think OP is not far off. By all accounts the early talent in this draft is deepest on D, and we have Mayo, Hicks, Jones and Wilson to replace. As usual, BB has filled those gaps with stop gap veteran 1-yr and 2-yr contracts. But he will fish for a long term solution in the draft.

I'm expecting, in some order DT, OT, DB, then a Trade Down... probably for that QB/Baller from Navy.

Mayo is replaced my McClellin.
Hicks is replaced by Knighton (only one year contract).
Jones is replaced by Long/Flowers.
Wilson will be replaced by Richards, although Richards' 4th Safety spot could be added in the draft.

Matakevich has been coming up a lot as patriot type choice.

Not that it's definitve, but the Patriots have had almost no pre-draft contacts with MLB types that we know of. It's been almost all EDGE linebackers. I think the only two we know they've had contact with is BB working out Reggie Ragland and contact with Kentrell Brothers ar the Senior Bowl.

I'm sure that we would like to draft an EDGE rusher who might start or be a major contributor in 2017.
Obviously contract issues are key: Ninkovich, Long, Collins, Sheard and even Hightower.

The question was posed last month. Someone asked when we should draft EDGE rushers. I replied early and often. You indicated that quality simply wasn't there. As we get closer, have you changed your mind?

So, sure, I'd love to draft two EDGE rushers in our first 3 picks. The open question is whether these players are there.

No, I haven't really changed my mind. I'm just pointing out that there's not a lot of evidence that they're looking at ILB in this draft. Makes sense with HT, Collins and Shea on board. That's our 3 linebackers - there's no real need to spend a high pick on an ILB unless they're not expecting to keep one of Collins or HT.

I still think it's OT, RB, CB, DT/WR with our first four picks (not necessarily in that order).

Thank you for the clarification.

Personally, I think it is a bit dangerous to assume that we will keep both Collins and Hightower. However, I can understand Belichick not considering ILB if he doesn't like the value.

It would seem that Collins will be expensive, especially in 2017 cap dollars. If we sign or franchise him, will we really pay another $6M per year to Hightower. If we do both, where are we with Sheard, Ninkovich and Long?

I understand that I I'm in the minority. However, I think that drafting an ILB gives Belichick more options in his negotiations with front 7 players.

I am with you in that minority category.

I trust bb to do the right thing for the organization in this draft, but an early ilb would make me feel better.
