For a second there I thought you wrote Chris Long.

Now we can safely go back to just using the term "Jones," without having to specify. Of course, it's a different Jones than we'd have thought, but it's one less Jones nonetheless.

I actually have some hope for Chris Long. I think he can be one of those vet signings that prove to be very beneficial.

The Patriots are loaded on the defensive line. It will be interesting to see how that competition shakes out in camp. Kuhn, Long, and Pot Roast are three pretty good veterans to go along with a group of remaining starters with substantial playoff experience. Sheard should see a lot more time at linebacker.

The Patriots have done a great job re-tooling a front seven that lost pro-bowlers Chandler Jones and Jerod Mayo.

This looks like a big, smart front that will mix up 3-4 with 4-3 and be monstrous on short-yardage and goal-line formations. The Patriots will stop the run and collapse the pocket on QBs who struggle with pressure. The better-than-average QBs they face in 2016 are Andy Dalton, Ben Roethlisberger, Carson Palmer, Joey Jump Ball Flacco, and Russell Wilson. Only Wilson is mobile.

All the other QBs are well-known to Patricia and Belichick, stiffs, re-treads, TBDs or all four (Jets, Browns, Texans, Rams.)

Probably heard of him but people who like the measurables should look up Moritz Boehringer in this years draft. Big Sleeper apparently.
I find Boehringer an odd prospect, I watched him play live and be dominated games but he never played against guys like college athletes. Great measurable are not enough it's not like guys can even watch game tape of him to get an idea how good he is.

I wish him and Anthony Dable all the best. I love that more and more guys from Europe are shots in the NFL.

Mike Reiss article offers Kuhn insight.

What type of player are Patriots getting in DT Markus Kuhn? (<<< Link)

Kuhn, who plays with a high level of energy, is more likely to make his mark by playing strong against the run by getting his hands into opposing offensive linemen and helping create a wall up front. He will compete for a backup spot in New England.

View from New York. "Markus was a player Tom Coughlin and his coaching staff always seemed to like more than the results indicated they should. He has had some injury issues that kept him off the field early in his career, but honestly he just didn’t make a lot of impact in his limited role, even though the staff loved his strength, his attitude and his work ethic and hoped/believed he’d make the leap when given the chance. Fun guy in the locker room, colorful guy, different kind of background obviously being from Germany. His Giants highlight was a touchdown he scored on a fumble recovery in Tennessee late in the 2014 season, but there weren’t enough of them to keep him around, no matter how tightly Jerry Reese likes to cling to his draft picks." -- Dan Graziano, ESPN NFL Nation Giants reporter

The Wrath of Kuhn!

KKKKKKKKUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHNNNNNN!

Lulz at "Disagree" ratings in this thread for:

1. A joke about the menu at Davio's.
2. A poster saying the Kuhn was a draft binkie.

Yeah, even the best European leagues are basically JUCO level at best. You're basically taking a huge flier on potential from measurables and grainy footage. But, hey, it worked in the NBA for the Bucks drafting Giannis Antetokounmpo out of the third Greek league or whatever based on grainy footage of him playing against guys who looked like they belonged at the Y.

yet another contender for the 5th DT roster spot after Knighton, Brown, Branch and Easley

COMPETING
Jones
Kitchen
Vellano
Kearse
Kuhn
draft choice or two

It's quite the collection of very large young men.

How about the QBs they'll face in the postseason?

I totally agree last year the third best team from Britain played a Div iii team. The college team won 50+-0. I think drafting this guy above the 6th would be crazy. Lots of people look great when you look at the numbers.

I won't be surprised if he doesn't get drafted at all, though he'll inevitably make it to camp somewhere, and probably then flame out. But you never know.

As for Euro football, I played on a team in Ireland for a year when I studied abroad there almost ten years ago now. We probably would have lost to a number of Massachusetts public high school teams.

The same British team played the best team in Ireland and won convincingly. The standard Britain is no where near that of Germany, France, Finland and Austria. A lot of those places get ex college players. A lot of high school teams would beat a lot of teams in Europe. There has been a few guys from here that have gone to US div i colleges, Boise state are big on trying to get guys over.

Yeah, Chris Jones can't be feeling too great about his chances at the moment, particularly after this signing.
Markus Kuhn couldn't hold even Chris Jones' jockstrap.

What an absolutely complete waste of time, precious cap space, and the tree that was destroyed in order to create the paper used to write up his contract.

Who the *!@& is Markus Kuhn lol

Camp competition most likely, it's gonna be a tough roster to make at the DT position

It's not possible at this time to know who those might be. I will get back to you after week 17.

Hard to complain about lack of depth now at DT...... All we really lack is a bruising runner and a legit 2nd CB
