Chung Extended One Year

Congrats to Chung. The team found a role that allows him to play to his strengths, and he has made the most of it.

He really had a pretty good year for us last year. Glad to see him coming back.

great for Chung, he's a tough sob

Pro Football Focus ranked Chung as the #6 safety in the NFL. McCourty is #9. Hadn't seen that before today (and your mileage may vary, as they say), but that is pretty amazing to consider. Patrick Chung #6?? I was dubious he would even make the team after he came crawling back from Philadelphia.

(Hey look at Earl Thomas there at #10, that was the guy the Seachickens fans say would have made the difference against us if he were healthy.)

Edit: You'll have to click on that image to go to Twitter to see the full list, it's cropped in that post.

There's your problem, right there.

Haha yeah I wasn't sure how people feel about that site around these parts. A lot of media outlets are just noise to me and I don't remember which ones are reliable or not.

At one stage they had McCourty, Chung and Harmon in the top 5. Although that might have been coverage only.

No site is less respected than PFF, it's complete garbage. I end anything I'm reading the moment they are cited as the source. They have zero credibility.

In any case, I am comfortable with our safeties.

starters - McCourty, Chung
backups - Harmon, Richards
STers - Ebner, King

IMHO, it is extremely unlikely that, absent injury, another safety would make the team. Of all the positions on team, this one of the very few positions where we are all set (also QB, TE and ST positions).

This is nice to see as Chung has definitely earned it. Well done, Patrick!

Remember the flak this guy got in the 2014 offseason on this forum when he came back?

I was sure guilty of being a part of that.

I remember it well. Looking back on it now he probably was thrilled to return after a couple of years in Washington I believe

Chung's resurgance has been one of the teams best stories of the past 2 seasons. Glad to see the team value him staying as well. We don't win the SB in 2014 without his presence, we don't narrowly lose to Den without his presence. He's been near-Chancellor level in 2014/15.

He ALWAYS had the talent, he finally has the role. We have the best safety trio in the NFL and I believe the most used safety trio in the league too. Can't think of a team who runs 3 safeties more than us.

Let's not go overboard now. Chancellor is All-Pro.

Chung's second stint with us as been phenomenal.

These last 2 years he might not have been elite, but hes literally the next level below and probably tops that list.

That 09 draft, which at one point looked like a dud, ended up giving us Chung, Vollmer and Edelman...Not bad

Also got the pick that was used to move up to get Gronk
