Pot Roast visiting - (UPDATED - He's Reportedly Joining the Team)

Sounds like a lot of money for Knighton; my first impression is that there are a couple of restructures in the pipeline to get back some cap space or even a release on the way.

I'm assuming the 4.5 mil has games played incentives, as we have seen the pats do with some other players of late. Seems a tad high, but if he comes in like the 13 version of himself....that's one hell of a front 7, maybe even an upgrade over a very good unit from last year.

How do you figure that?

OLBs: Long, Sheard, Ninkovich, McClellin
ILBs: Hightower, Collins, McClellin

I guess I was questioning whether Long and Ninko could be effective long term in these roles at this point, considering it's been a while since they've done it consistently and they're over 30. And Sheard was not as effective in a 3-4 in Cleveland. And McClellin's performance as an ILB has been, um, well-debated here.

As you note, it could be done, especially against run heavy teams who run between the tackles. But I think the personnel is better suited for the 4-3, or more precisely, the current 4-2-5 they use. Will be interesting to see how it plays out though.

I like Knighton, but not for $4.5M.

I get that, but...

This was clearly a position of need. While it may seem like an overpay, they did so with a guy who is a) relatively young and b) has exhibited dominance. Given what we know about his recent training and weight loss, he seems primed to come in and provide top line performance. That's my homer take, anyway.

That is some expensive pot roast. Maybe they're dumping another much maligned player off the team.

As someone said earlier, the Patriots roster right now (on paper) seems vastly superior than what we had on the field in Denver in January

I agree that $4.5 mill seems s little steep for Mr Roast, but I love our rebuilt defense.

If these moves were a reaction to goodell and the NYJFL stealing our draft pick, then I won't mind if the scum-suckers take them every year

Where are the salary cap police?

He looks in great shape now lets get our back, strengthen the o line find a deep threat and cruise to another East title

I don't think there's any way to strengthen the Oline at this point in FA. We're probably going in with what we have now.

Now's the perfect time to dig up that thread claiming that they were up against the cap and couldn't really make any moves (gentle chiding only, please).

So far, Belichick has done a masterful job strengthening the weak spots and covering contingencies
like Develin and Lewis not being able to play right away.

Nicey McNice!

Assuming Pats offered Fairley the same deal he did leave me on the table to have a bigger role in NO.

His deal was 1 year/$3m (with $2.2m gtd)
