Pot Roast? Yes please.

I would prefer Melton, but I'd certainly take Knighton with open arms.

Knighton, Melton and Fairley all had nearly identical numbers last season. Honestly can't go wrong with either of the two left.

Knighton and Melton aren't comparable players, though. Knighton's a run-stuffing nose tackle and widely known as a good locker room personality. Melton's a pass-rushing defensive tackle who's been a problem in the locker room. In theory they could bring in both as rotational replacements for Siliga and Hicks, respectively, but I find it unlikely that they would, especially given the depth at defensive tackle in the draft.

I'd prefer someone who is a better pass rusher...but this wouldn't be a bad signing at all

Great. He didn't have a great year last year but he played for a horrible franchise. I'm surprised he hadn't been signed yet, and I'll be very happy if the Patriots added him. The big issue with Knighton is he's not much of a pass rusher, so he's not a replacement for Fairley or Hicks. But he's an upgrade on Siliga and a good rotational player with Branch. One interesting wrinkle is that he's mentioned he's tired of bumping around the league, so you might be able to get him for a bargain if you give him a 3-year deal. He's only 29 and could stay effective for that long.

Not that horrible they made the playoffs. Gruden has been doing some good things over there.

Fairley said he picked the saints due to more opportunity of playing time
Admittedly that I could understand. With two first round pick DT's and Alan Branch on board, he would likely not get near as much playing time here.

Knighton was also miscast in the 3-4, and didn't play that poorly in any case. He's effectively a poor man's Vince Wilfork, in that he's basically unblockable one-on-one in the run game and can create a push from the inside but will never be known as a strong pass rusher. He's an upgrade from Siliga and probably from Branch, as well.

Knight's big issue for his contract situation is that he's a nose tackle, and nose tackles are always undervalued because they don't put up big counting stats. There's absolutely no reason Ted Washington, the greatest nose tackle of all time, shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, but he won't even sniff it.

Yes please. Would love the Pot Roast that was in Mile High.

Hmm
If Fairly couldn't beat out Branch for reps, then he wouldn't have deserved them. A similar argument could have been made with respect to Hicks, who ended up contributing.

I suppose his new team will give him more reps, because of less competition at the position.

This is from a couple days ago. Pats must have started the courting then after losing out on Fairley.

Didn't he talk some **** on us?
He DID **** ON the Pats in the 2013 AFCCG. That was the game where it became apparent to basically all Pats fans that Wendell couldn't hack it as a starting C.

maybe he can fill wilforks shoe

They're both DT's. They're definitely comparable players. We're not talking DT and CB here...

Fairley is pass-rushing DT and they lost out on him and immediately turned to Knighton, who by your admission is a run-stuffing DT, so clearly the Patriots see them as very comparable.

I'm curious to know whether adding him will change the character of our defense?

Because even if he beats Branch he still has Easley and Brown to fight reps from. Fairley will likely be the #1 DT in New Orleans, rather than being anywhere from the #1 to #4 here.

That might be why I had that feeling...

Those guys are ideal ambassadors for anyone thinking about joining the Pats.

Of course he wants more playing time....more "playing time" is basically code for more money! lol
