Miguel has documented in another thread how we can still free up cap money, and additional uses of cap space like extending Collins. Obviously, we might use cap space on free agent additions or players traded for.

$9M - ABOUT WHAT WE NEED
Miguel has provided the details in the other thread.
My point is that we do NOT have $9M to spend. Actually we have little or nothing.

from Miguel (who often provides ranges)
Draft class - $0.6M
Player 52,53 .9
Practice Squad 1.1
NLTBE Roster 1.5
NLTBE Playing Time 1.5
Injury Cushion 5.0 (to replace players injured in camp, preseason or even during the season)
Final Roster Cut Savings ( 1.6) relatively higher cost players cut as we move to final roster
-------
Total Needed $9.0M

So what you're saying is we're not signing Matt Forte for $9 million guaranteed?

$0.6M will not cover the entire draft class.

Im not sure how .6 mil can cover an entire draft class. Malcom butler was not drafted and he made 550,00 his rookie year. Lets say the 2 first rounders and 3 other playerd make the team. We are suppose to believe they will count 108,000 towards the cap? You cant even get one second rounder for .6 mil in year. Hernandez was a 4th rounder and he got a 20000o signing bonus which is low and 700000 dollars a year.

You might wanna sorta become an expert before trying to refute Miguel on cap matters.
Something isnt adding up so i choose not to blindly accept that as fact.. Like i said earlier.. An unrestricted free agent two years ago was worth 550,000... See malcolm butlers contract.

we have 11 picks. i'm not an expert on cap matters, but isn't that's less than 60K per player?

I'm no cap expert, and it doesn't make sense to me, but in such cases I defer to the experts until new information proves them wrong.

Sigh

I would respectfully ask that you all read at least SOME of Miguel's many, many explanations of the cap.
=================
I'll simplify.

We have 51 players that count against the cap at the moment (and until the season starts). The bottom player is about $600K.

If we sign a draftee at a 2016 cap cost of $500K, there would be ZERO effect on the cap. In fact, if he eventually made the team, and the bottom player were still $600K, there would be a cap SAVINGS of $100K.

So, we could sign all of our draft choices, and the cap effect upon signing would be about $600K. The actual effect, if a significant number of them make the team, would be a cap savings.

why do we have ntlbe bonus listed as a cap charge? 5 mill for players added during the year? At that time of year you are normally signing street FA, waiver wire players never get to us.

Because of the rule of 51 Malcolm Butler is one of several lower-paid players who are currently counting zero against the Patriots salary cap.

Cut Cannon and get this number to 12 million

Both our OT's have injury histories. Vollmer is in his contract year. Scar thought that Cannon was worth his pay as a a backup.

Perhaps, just perhaps, the team isn't ready to hand the backup role to Waddle, with Fleming or a 2nd or 3rd rounder as the #4 OT. Perhaps, just perhaps, Scar would like to see all of the OT's in camp before making a decision. Of course, an injury could affect a decision.
