Kraft "trying" to get 1st round pick back

The monetary success and popularity of the NFL has little to do with Roger Goodell.
Goodell is a puppet, a figurehead and anyone who read the transcripts of Brady's appeal knows he's not terribly bright.
And it is personal and not all business......just as it was for Michael Corleone.

Good points, I was speculating on why Kraft (who is clearly a successful businessman) has acted so differently than we, as fans, think he should have. I think that above all he sees the Patriots as a successful business and he treats it as such. That doesn't mean that he is a robot with no personal feelings, it just means he is primarily focused on the money his business is making (I would expect that all billionaires treat their businesses the same, it is all about the money).

Conversely, Goodall is a public relations (PR) guy who happened to have lots of connections with rich people (such as NFL owners) as the son of a US Senator. I can't stand Goodell and I'm definitely not defending him, but I think the owners see their sport in the news 24/7 year-round (and, as Brendan Behan said, "There's no such thing as bad publicity except your own obituary") and their bank accounts skyrocketing and they figure they don't want to kill the golden goose.

But obviously things aren't strictly business with Goodell. As you said, it is obvious that it is very personal between him and Brady (who dared to defy him).

His latest endorsement of Goodell was the last straw for me, f.ck him, being part of the n billionaire boys club is all that matters to him. I hope Patriot fans boo him endlessly from here on out.

It really has reached a point of doublespeak with the Kraft family.

Patriots fans are at the front of a HUGE group of people - media, fans and 3rd party observers (think of those following the court battle) - who think Goodell's NFL is a place where just outcomes wither and die on the vine. The Krafts tell us they're angry and frustrated too. They empathize with and feel our anguish - see the interview with Jonathan and Tom E. Curran being released tonight!

Yet, despite this, the doublespeak kicks in when Robert is willing to publicly endorse Goodell as doing a good job. This, of all situations, would seemingly be a time when his silence should speak volumes (since he's apparently unwilling to publicly demand the league begin whatever process there is for replacing Roger).

Instead, we're told that Kraft is on our side. Hard to believe he's trying to do anything other than have his cake and eat it too, given the simple timeline of events.

I think it is clear that in the past, Kraft has encouraged other owners to accept a league punishment they disagreed with for the good of the whole. In fact, Jerry Jones threw those words in Kraft's face last year.

Kraft wanted to lead by example (and not be a hypocrite). So he accepted the league punishment. Unfortunately in doing so, he sold out his coach, his QB and his fanbase.

Do I think Jonathan would have responded differently? It's all wild ass speculation, but he does seem to be the type less worried about consensus building among the 32 than he would be about defending his team. I believe - and yes this is still just wild ass speculation - that he has privately expressed to his dad a lot of disagreement over how his dad handled the appeasement (but, like a good son, would never disagree publicly).

Bottom line is I think we can admit Bob Kraft let us down without hating the guy and we can admit he butchered this whole thing without ignoring all the good things he has done for the franchise.

And that's what I am truly pissed off about. I have no idea how Kraft doesn't understand that to publicly support Goodell is to give every Patriot fan the middle finger, and I called their media relations department yesterday to make sure they got that message. While Roger Goodell is actively engaged in lying about, smearing, and punishing the Patriots based upon those lies and smears Robert Kraft is openly applauding the job he is doing. It literally defies belief, it does not get any more tone deaf than that. The only way Robert Kraft will ever get any credibility bank for many Patriot fans is to come out and publicly destroy Roger Goodell and promise to do everything in his power to have him removed and his cabal of @ssholes at Madison Avenue purged. Nothing short of that will do. Imo he doesn't even need to succeed he just needs to make it clear to everyone that he stands with his franchise and fans and against the scumbags who are engaged in a vendetta against them, and Goodell is the ringleader for those scumbag s.
Welcome to the reality which I have stating for months. It amazes me that as astute judge of character like Kraft can have such a blind spot towards the POS and his minions. We can only hope that Bob rides into the sunset before the next bogus violation and penalty comes as it surely will.

But his father still thinks Goodell is doing a good job. Time for a reality check and intervention Jonathan
I think Bob just approved a raise for Goody too

At least Kraft is reputed to be in the business world. At this time the best thing the Pats PR staff can do is keep him away from any microphone or reporter. With each statement he seems more pathetic and out of touch with reality than the last.

makes me so angry this guy can stand up after all the lies and say this with a straight face

Yeah but Kraft himself said Goodell is doing a stand-up job as commissioner just two days ago. Why the hell would he return the picks?

Umm...how about SCIENCE??!! He had the information since this s#!@ show began.

calm down, goodell is also someone that doesn't believe in evolution, and thanks god after doctors perform surgery.

Oh I'm sure he is waiting for "new information". As in Brady saying he is guilty.

Not gonna happen Rog.

The NFL is now an in-group of 32 individual "owners". Within which cliques will form, political posturing will be rampant, and **** measuring contests will be had.

Kraft is just another rich guy having a schoolyard fight with other rich guys. The ridiculousness and corruption at the center is horrifying and worse yet, nobody seems to be bothered by it. The NFL is slowly turning into the WWE - with predetermined storylines and all.
