Patriots trade for TE Martellus Bennett!

Seems to me like his attitude concerns are being way over discussed. If anything he just an odd duck kinda like Lloyd. Nothing out there seems like a real problem. He seems like a family man and I don't see any real problems.

It was rumored that the Pats wanted Lloyd back in 2013 - just at the right price. It was also said by the scribes that Lloyd was a moody bastard but a decent guy overall and did not cause any major issues in the locker room.

Are you claiming that the picture is real? Jay Cutler was supposedly smoking cigarettes out in the open on the sidelines during the game?

Does that seem a bit odd to you, as well as the picture itself?

Hey Dirty Sanchez eats hot dogs. Why can't Cutler puff on a Marlboro? :p

He should be alright to fit into the environment for a year. If his production and attitude prove worthy of a possible extension at a fair price, they'll negotiate after the season.

Nope just attribute to Smokin Jay site that making fun of Cutler, even Aaron Rodgers did it.

I'm speechless, I have no speech.

I've explained several times that it's obviously possible that he'll be expected to do some things differently in more of a "team" oriented offense, both in practice and on Sundays.

I don't know how else to say it? If you don't see reason to take that into account, fine, but don't pretend like CHI and NE are exactly the same in what they ask out of their schemes. Bennett was a focal point in Chicago. He'll be further down on the list of options and could be expected to block more in a 2 TE set where we take advantage of specific matchup mismatches with the running game and other receiving targets--or at least that was the concern that was brought up.

You've made it crystal clear several times over that you do not see any concerns, so thank you for your opinion, and let's move on...

I see it differently, I think he's a winner and like many gets frustrated playing on losing teams, especially when he isn't getting used properly. I think he's envious of his brothers Super Bowl ring and would like nothing more than to have one of his own to respond with and he knows this is his best shot to get one. I don't think he will restructure rather I think he will take his chances and use this as an opportunity to show he can fit in and be a big contributor on a championship team them cash in next year in free agency. Unfortunately I think he's a one year rental and will command too much to keep. I say that with one caveat however, it could be that the return to a really productive two TE offense works so well that Belichick decides that it is worth the investment and pays him, as he did with the murderer. That would be a great development for the Patriots imo and I hope it plays out that way.

It's stupid **** like this that adds to the perception that he just can't grow up, but the talent is there enough to risk a one year flier simply for moving down 50 spots in the draft.

It's harmless. He's not beating women, driving 150 mph, or getting into bar fights, those are real issues, Bennett is simply an outgoing personality, like Gronk, and as such gets attention for silly crap like this. He's looking forward to being here and I'm glad he will be, I think people are going to love him when they see this offense with him I'm it.

Okay, serious question here.

What is the confidence on this board with the Bennett signing in comparison to last year with the Chandler signing? Although I realize Bennett is more athletic and is objectively "better" than Chandler, I do recall that last year many were thrilled we were getting a real tight end who could catch and block. Chandler was of similar age, experience, and size. His past production levels were lower than Bennett, but many thought it was due to dreadful quarterback play and little other options in the Bills offense. To a less extent there was a lot of excitement about Tim Wright as more of a Hernandez option as a move tight end.

So what I mean to say is, while I am hopeful that Bennett's athleticism and higher ceiling will ultimately prove to be the right fit here, I'll believe it when I see it.

With Chandler I felt like "we have a legit #2 TE that can be a reasonably decent player if Gronk is out for a short bit. He has starter experience and with Gronk we will be near impossible to stop in the redzone provided the line blocks" Chandler didn't live up to my expectations though but he did do well in the endzone and on a few occasions flashed but had too mant big drops.

Bennett is a horse of a hold different color. He is not a guy who played #1 TE cause the team needed him to. He plain is a #1 TE and one of the top 10 TEs in the NFL. Arguably (and i would argue he is) top 5.

His all around game is legit. He is not just a Gronk backup up he is a straight up weapon. He is going to be on the field as a starter and will have multiple plays a game designed with him as the target not cause Edelman or Gronk opens it up for him but because he is a legit target that can get himself open consistently.

This is a great move. Bennett was never good as a Cowboy, but was very good with the Bears. As some have said, he's a better blocker than given credit for. Borderline top 5 TE in the NFL when he's playing at his best.

Still think they need a big outside WR(Lafell like), and a RB.

You don't have to beat women or do drugs to show past signs of being a problem in the locker room, and he's done that plenty of times. Some of them are odd and harmless, but some involve stupid comments about coaches and teammates, as well as signs of a questionable attitude.

I agree with you that he's only here for a year no matter what anyway, so odds are that he'll be just fine--and if he's not, he'll at least keep things toned down enough to get through the year. Either way, he should be a nice addition to the offense for 2016.

So you are of the belief that Hogan does not replace LaFell?

I too am hoping that this is the case.

No, I haven't made it clear that I do not see concerns, I have asked a question.
You are saying he will have to block more, and I don't understand why that would be.
We will run less than Chicago did.
I get that if he were brought in here to only play in running formations as a blocking TE, that he would feel misused. But I don't understand why you feel he would be blocking more here than he did in Chicago.

You seem agitated by my post. I do not know why.
I am simply asking for you to explain why you feel that would happen so I can understand what you mean.

As far as being 'down on the list of options' I posted numbers earlier that show we was the #3 option there and if he is used in a 2 TE base like Hernandez was there is every reason to believe he would be #3 here and get even more targets.
