Chandler Jones Traded

I doubt Cooper starts before Jackson or Mason. The Pat's finally had someone who could rush the passer and they just shipped him off for the 61st pick and a draft bust.

I can certainly understand the frustration of people who were big fans of Jones and wanted him to stay, but that 2nd rounder could be a total bust, or it could be another Gronk or Collins

Look at the bright side, Cooper can't be worse than Kline right?

I think Easley is a Michael Bennett type player who can line up at RDE in a base and then slide inside to DT in a sub package.

I dunna know...

Bennett seems like he has more length to him which suits him more on the outside.

As we all know Easy has crazy burst of the line but lacks the ferocity and moves a guy like Bennett has.

Gronk was pick 42 and Collins was 52, by the time you get yo the 60 you end up with Tavon Wilson, Aaron Dobson, and Jordon Ricahrds.

damn... trade makes alot of sense but im gonna miss Chandler :(. So what does that look for our front 7? more 3-4 looks?

And Sebastian Vollmer and Jimmy Garoppolo.

Coopers college tape looks good. I always think that a busy or failure at one team does not guarantee status at another team. Hopefully that is true for this case cuz in zona he looked bad at times (based on a couple YouTube videos).

Its not a guarantee, but its about a coin flip that they'll get a decent player for the next 4 years... and they also have like 11 picks so they can move up if they really like a guy

These are all 2nd round talents they got;

Matt Light
Deion Branch
Eugene Wilson
Patrick Chung
Sebastian Vollmer
Rob Gronkowski
Brandon Spikes
Shane Vereen
Jamie Collins
Jimmy Gorrapalo

Its not an ideal situation to lose Jones, I really liked the idea of having him this year to make another title run.. but they obviously didn't envision him in their long term plans, so getting a 2nd + a player isn't a horrible deal under the assumption that they would have moved on from him next year and only got a 3rd in 2018

With Scar, Cooper has a legitimate chance to take a starting role on the interior of the line and the Patriots recoup lost draft capital with the 2nd, plus the cap room that was freed up

My lasting memory of Jones will be him looping around behind the quarterback with some offensive lineman pushing his head back from under the chin. Seemed to happen almost every time.

I'll always remember CJ's first sack in his first NFL game against the Titans. That strip sack was absolutely diabolical! And Hightower recovers the fumble for the TD.:)

Who are your starting (4) line backers?

So the overall trade was cooper + long + 2nd for jones. I'll take it.

Anything that makes long term deals with Collins and Hightower closer to reality, I'm on board.

The cap profile of the youngish team that won the SB two years ago is getting high, as the kids are coming into their big money contract years. This is precisely a Richard Seymour / Vince Wilfork decision, on an even bigger scale.

I don't think the shirtless episode with the police triggered this trade, but I do think it removed any uncertainty there might have been around whether to find the cap space to resign Jones to a max deal.

Trust BB to always navigate the roster situation for the long run. I'm sure he had lots of good offers for Jones, in a "sell-high" mindset. Adding Cooper, for me, is a "buy-low" cherry on top of a deal that needed to be made anyway.

The 2nd round pick is sorely needed with the lost 1st, in a draft that will have good players available in the 2nd. I think its very unlikely that BB will package them to move back into the first. If anything, more likely is that he'll take a later round pick to move higher in the 2nd to land someone he liked in the 1st who has drifted into the 40s. BB made that move for Gronkowski.

Having Sheard and Long take the floor out of the risk for the Pats in this trade for this year.

The thing that gives this trade real context is that, even without considering Sheard, Jones, Cooper, Ninkovich or Long onto the depth chart, none of whom are certain to be on the team after 2016, the team has Tre Jackson, Shaq Mason, Gino Grissom, Rufus Johnson and Trey Flowers-- young and affordable ballers with experience in the system and serious upside, who will only get better with more snaps-- plus 11 draft selections upcoming, who will need roster space.

So the overall trade was cooper + long + 2nd for jones. I'll take it.

Exactly. :D

So, instead of another season with Chandler, which is a boon to any team, the NEP freed up over $5M in cap space; picked up a 2nd round pick this year (instead of waiting for a 3rd in 2018); added Cooper; and signed Long.

What are the chances that Long and/or Cooper will have a good season? And if both do, the Past will surely be improved. And how 'bout that player- to be named later -that they'll acquire via the 2nd round?
