Chandler Jones Traded

Excited by the chance to see if Jon Cooper will do something on this team. One of my biggest draft binkies over the years. Only OG I've scouted with feet as quick and good as Shaq Mason that I've scouted was Jonathan Cooper.. Hope he works out under Scar.

Wow. I know ZERO about Cooper. I'm hearing Cooper has kinda been stinky. Please someone fill me in.
Arizona has Offensive line troubles for years, Im going to be a homer and chalk it up to coaching.

This is THE reason why he was traded.

If you look at what High, Collins and Malcolm's peers (depending on how good you think they are are getting it's $12-$15AAV, a signing bonus of $15-$25m and guarantees of $30-$45m for EACH player.

Even Sheard might get a $15m in guarantees deal.
Yep. I get the feeling that Butler and Hightower might not require crazy contracts (although certainly big money), not sure about Collins though.

10 sacks is better than 5. I know that. The hurries are good too. Now maybe the opposing LT isn't going to have to tackle ur guy by the neck as he hurries the QB.
I just don't see jones as a great player, good player yes. I thought a 3rd rounder would've been fair. So I'm definitely happy with the trade

This is the kind of deal I am okay with. You get instant impact from the guard spot and a 2nd round pick which can also impact.

This draft is supposedly strong for defensive line and edge players which may have prompted the Patriots to part with Chandler Jones whilst they have Ninkovich and Sheard as incumbents along with possibly another FA on a decent contract, and Grissom, Flowers and Rufus Johnson in the wings.

Sheard will also be due an extension within the next two years along with Butler, Hightower, Collins and possibly Logan Ryan, Duron Harmon and contracts have been astronomical this offseason.

I like this trade quite a bit. We were never going to re-sign Jones, and even franchising him would have been prohibitive at the DE rate. So the Pats pick up a 2nd rounder and Cooper for one year of Jones and likely a pick at the end of the 3rd round in 2017? I'll take it.
.
Wouldn't it be 2018 if he leaves in '17?

I could see BB using both 2nd rounders and moving up into the bottom of the first round!

Except that, in doing so, the Pats forfeit whichever pick is the higher. And I would find it unlikely that Carolina or Denver would trade their 1st rounder for 2 bottom of the 2nd round picks..

Wow, did not see this happening ! Not sure how I feel about it right now...

Let's all not forget they got 4 years out of Jones, it's not like they just burned a 1st round pick on nothing.

If BB sees value in a 2nd round pick on a backup QB, then in his eyes he extracted value out of the first round pick for Jones. And he is now poised to get 4 years of value or more out of the second round pick, merely 1 round lower.

I never forget that BB was an economist first, and if you view this transaction through that lens (remembering as well increased cap space, potential good value for money in the player coming back) the deal seems to make a lot of sense.

Why? The last Indiana Jones was absolute trash. Why rape the franchise more?
