Chandler Jones Traded

They wouldn't cut him. He started 9 games last season was the 7th overall pick and was basically in his 2nd year since he broke his leg and spent his rookie year on IR.
I disagree.

I like it. We weren't going to retain Chandler once his contract was up anyhow. Not with Collins and Hightower needing extensions.

Jones played great at times and had some good seasons for us. Problem it still felt like he could have been better and there were a number of big games when he just didn't show up.

Don't know anything about this guard we got but indication is he's been something of a disappointment so far. But seems we see something in him and he probably has potential as the seventh overall pick. Notching an extra second rounder is very nice too. Much needed. Let's not pull a Tavon Wilson, Jordan Richards-type pick this time? :D

It's irrelevant what round Jones was picked in. What is relevant is the number of sacks he brought to the team.

The question I have is this: which do you prefer, 10+ sacks for next season or a 2nd rounder + a guard who was benched for a guard the Patriots cut?

I'd take the 10+ sacks for one season.

Jones only had 3 sacks after week 10, and two of those came against the hapless Titans (the other in the playoffs against the Chiefs). In all three of the full seasons he's played, he's faded noticeably later in the year after a barnstormer start to the season. Jones is a good player against both pass and run, but that tendency to fade is alarming and the reason he was almost certainly the lowest priority for an extension among Collins, Hightower, and Butler.

WHAT???? The 2nd rounder isn't for this year? Am I understanding this correctly?

Pats get: 2016 2nd round + Cooper and Cards get Jones

If he dont re-sign with the cardinals they will get a 3rd round comp pick (2017)

So they were really smart

Jones had four strip sacks last year, each one of them turned the game. He made big time play after big time play. He will not be replaced and the defense will be less without him.

Plus you also just traded away Gronk's BFF, if he wasn't already *****ing about being underpaid, he might start now.

They traded Jones for a guy who was benched for Ted Larsen, a guy who could not even make the Pats roster! and a late second round pick.

Bad move

All the stats show that Jones wasn't the Patriots best pass rush guy. It was, in fact, Sheard.

Absolutely. Sheard was hands down best pass rusher last year. But what we don't know is if he'll maintain that level when his snaps increase to jones level. We're gonna find out

This is a trade that weakens the team in the short term but could strengthens it long term if they were not going to extend Jones, Cooper develops into a starting guard (which he is not), and the draft pick is Jamie Collins II and not Tavon Wilson II. Development of Flowers or Johnson would lessen the short term hit, but can't expect either to be Jones. We haven't had many like him.

They can have both.

Fine with the trade. Jones was excellent versus the mediocre teams but didn't help close out games against the better teams. Pats O-line was the main reason they lost the AFCCG. A stud guard would help.

Wish we could have won one more Superbowl with you CJ:(

With Hightower, Collins, Butler contracts coming up I understand. Good move in getting a 2nd round pick and a guard. Let's hope he can help us.

I'll take a 2nd round pick in a draft you don't have a 1st rounder.
Jabaal Sheard becoming the starting RDE
Depth on the OL

Sheard played in 300 fewer snaps than Jones and only had 4 fewer sacks..

Also if there is anyone that can get something out of Cooper it's Belichick and Scar

But... Ted Larsen replaced Cooper. Larsen is a guy the Patriots cut.
at the time pats had Mankins in his prime and brian waters so it was hard for a 6th round pick to make the team at G sure now he would be a starter, as for cooper i am hoping a new system and some time with one of the best OL coachs of all time will get him back to being a good player

this was my initial reaction, don't like cooper at all.
he's been a major bust, now if it was straight up for Iupati then i would probably love the move...

the 2nd round pick is nice i guess. hope they sign chris long now and lock up sheard long term.

I don't know I think he may have gotten lucky here. I thought he was more worth a 3rd based on what I see him do on the field

Big picture.

52 starts.
10 forced fumbles
36 sacks.
79 hurries (I'm assuming this is accurate).

That may not be elite but that is very, very good production and a 9 sack a year player is worth a 2nd rd pick.

10+ sacks in mostly meaningless situations

Overrated
Gimme a break. You can support the trade, as I do, without making silly statements like how he had 10+ sacks in "mostly meaningless situations". Including the playoffs, he had 8 1/2 sacks in games that were decided by one score or less.

10 sacks does not make you an elite or great pass rusher
